INTERPRETATION
We interpreted the assignment to be about improving the home for someone who
is disabled and needed a wheelchair, but also as a way to improve the house altogether.
We knew it had to improve the lifestyle of the person living in it, so we decided to
include an elevator to get to the second floor easier. It was easier to build the elevator
rather than trying to change the entire layout of the home. We were able to accomplish
that, as well as adding more rails around the stairs. Our team couldnt really do anything
to change the style of the house, since we had to follow the floor plan and the style of
the outside. We decided to keep the colors on the house, as well as the inside very
neutral and not too overpowering. Before we began the project we all researched Sears
home and found similar houses and gathered ideas. Then we talked about which parts
we could take away and add to our own house. We knew the assignment wasnt going
to be easy, and that we would have to work fast. We immediately divided all the work,
and began to put everything together. The team really focused, and everyone was
responsible and did their best job. We knew that this challenge could be done and that it
wouldn't be as hard if we worked together. Although we all had different ideas, we were
able to compromise and work together to get as much as we could done, but also do it
the correct way so we could be proud of the end result.
LEED ASSESSMENT
I was really focused on how the house was going to meet the USGBC standards.
Since the building is being newly constructed and going through a major renovation, I
wanted to make sure it would be efficient and that it had a better rating. A green building
is a design and construction that provide an opportunity to use resources more
efficiently, while creating a healthier and more energy-efficient homes. There is many
things that could be done in order to have your home be considered a green building.
The first thing you want to do in order to consider your house a green building is to
make sure that you provide enough recycling and yard waste compost containers for
your neighbors. You can also create a garden where your neighbors so they can grow
different kinds of foods and fruit. You can also decrease any other energy requirements
you can install efficient lighting and install efficient appliances. You can also use
tankless water heaters especially if the home will not be constantly occupied. Not only
that but you can also turn off all your lights computers, appliances when they're not
being used. You can also install energy generation equipment such as solar panels. Not
only that but you can increase heating cooling efficiency and they need to be carefully
matched to high-efficiency building envelope. You also need to take advantage of the
earth's temperature by installing a geothermal pump or a ground air heat exchanger
where space and cost conditions permit. You can also install radiant floor heating this
floor provides warmth and it also provides comfort. These are a only few things that you
can do to make your home a green building but theres many other things you can do as
well to make your home a green building.
exterior is really beneficial. It is safe for everyone, durable, cheap, reduces pollution,
cuts water wastage and looks good.
