Argumentative Essay
Air Pollution and the Environment
Air pollution causes damage to the environment, our health and the quality of life, along
with other poisoning substances in the atmosphere. The increase in our industry has effected the
amount of air pollution there is in common every day places, like school, work, and even our
homes. Many health problems are due to air pollution, including lung cancer because of the
cause of having breathing problems. Plants and animals are harmed along with humans. Air
pollution affects their ecosystem and destroys it. The earths atmosphere has been so deeply
affected by air pollution. The sun gives out harmful radiation due to all the air pollution being
created. Global warming is a rise in temperature, which is cause by the fact that our polluted
air is preventing heat from leaving back to space. This has being and still is a huge problem.
Many issues can come from air pollution, such as higher temperature in our food and sea level.
This may also cause an increase in various tropical diseases, which would not be good for
anyone.
United States and the rest of the world are facing and will continue to face significant
environmental challenges. Pollution poses an ongoing threat to the health and welfare of the
citizens of Washington State (Cohen349). According to Cohen, Air pollution costs Washington
approximately $190 million per year, ocean acidification is contributing to oyster die-offs, and
approximately 677,000 acres of land are affected by area-wide soil contamination. Although

Washington has aspirational environmental legislation and a narrowly defined duty under article
XVII of the Washington State Constitution to protect navigable waters, their shores and
tidelands, the State needs to do more if its citizens present and future are going to enjoy a healthy
environment (Cohen349). Has this article had inform as that Amending the Washington State
Constitution to include an extended public trust doctrine that provides broad environmental
protection and incorporates an affirmative right to a healthy environment (Cohen349). To this
Amending the State Constitution have to be sure our environment is protect for the goods of
people living in the present and future generations. This let us know that by doing this kind of
things we solve a lot of situations.
Since the 1950s, with the initial impetus coming from the air pollution disasters, the
health effects of air pollution have been extensively investigated (Bernard203). Abundant
evidence demonstrates that air pollution can have adverse health effects. We can said that
Bernard has been investigating why the contamination of the environment can be so harmful for
humans life that we cannot imagine. But we know that it helps to spread out various kinds of
disease like bronchial irritation, asthma, pneumonia and cancer. Air pollution has been a public
health concern in the United States for many decades, beginning with the well-chronicled air
pollution disasters that caused acute and readily recognized excess morbidity and mortality
(Bernard199). In Donora, Pennsylvania, an air pollution event over a 5-day period in October
1948 caused 19 deaths, well above the two deaths expected for this period (Bernard199). About
10% of the population of Donora was thought to be severely affected by the exposure, which
resulted from thermal inversions that confined industrial combustion emissions (Bernard199).
A few years later, when a slow-moving anticyclone came to a halt over London, England, in
1952, particulate and sulfur dioxide (SO2) pollution built up over a 3-day period, causing 3,000-

Corvo 3

4,000 excess deaths (Bernard199). Prompted by these tragic episodes and mounting scientific
evidence on the health effects of air pollution, the U.S. government began a series of measures to
research, monitor, and regulate air pollution, culminating in the passage of the 1970 Clean Air
Act (Bernard199). The Clean Air Act has resulted in controls over the ambient concentrations
and now we can control everything but always going to be something that we cannot do
something about it.
Sierra-Vargas and Respirology Society are observing how air pollution as become a
major health problem that affects millions of people worldwide. In support of this observation,
the World Health Organization estimates that every year, 2.4 million people die because of the
effects of air pollution on health. Mitigation strategies such as changes in diesel engine
technology could result in fewer premature mortalities, as suggested by the US Environmental
Protection Agency (Sierra-Vargas1031). This observation discusses: the impact of air
pollution on respiratory disease; provides evidence that reducing air pollution may have a
positive impact on the prevention of disease;
demonstrates the impact
concerted polices may have on
population health when
governments take actions to
reduce air pollution. Impact and
prevention is a way to figurate
out why air pollution is a huge
problem in the environment.

There are some effects on respiratory health has the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology has
investigated. The airways are a point of entry for pollutants, which in turn may cause lung
disease (Sierra-Vargas1032). Has you can see in figure 1 it show the different effect on health
diseases.
There are been some other environment problem like the pollution in the ocean. The
global ocean plastic pollution and the model projecting potential points of origin the world-over.
The topics include 300,000 tons of plastic swirling near the surface of the seas (Wilcox32).
The University of Georgia environmental engineer Jenna Jambeck and colleagues assembling a
model that shows potential points of origin. They are trying to see how they do to help solve this
plastic floating on the ocean. Out at sea the trillions of plastic pieces in our oceans are
incredibly spread out (Wilcox33). Theres not a persistent patch that you can go mine for
trash, Eriksen says. But the recent findings, paired with new circulation models, can streamline
efforts to locate it. For example, nonprofit tech developer The Ocean Cleanup wants to use
ocean currents to corral plastics into an array of anchored booms to concentrate and remove
them (Wilcox33). On the beach is easier than trying to recover these practically
irretrievable bits of broken-down plastic is keeping plastic stuff out of the water in
the first place (Wilcox33). In 2013, volunteers with the Ocean Conservancys
International Coastal Cleanup collected more than 12.3 million pounds of beach
trash around the globe, including more than 940,000 plastic bottles (Wilcox33).This
issue we better stopped by not throwing garbage to our ocean.

A campaign that it mission is to unite voices and amplify messages to raise ocean
awareness and promote everyday actions that protect the ocean. The Californias Thank You
Ocean Campaign is a nonprofit partnership supported by the State of California, the NOAA
Office of National Marine Sanctuaries and the Ocean Communicators Alliance

(ThankYouOcean.org) . The campaign features an inspiring public service announcement (PSA)

produced by world-renowned cinematographer, Bob Talbot, and a Dont Trash the Beach PSA
featuring actor and activist, Edward James Olmos, an out-of-door advertising campaign, an
extensive toolkit for the California Ocean Communicators Alliance, a bi-weekly podcast series
featuring leaders in ocean policy, and this Web site. The campaign is focused on educating the
public about the importance of sustaining ocean life and inspiring Californians to practice ocean
stewardship to alleviate four major threats to the ocean: Climate Change, Marine Debris ,Japan
Tsunami Marine Debris, Water Pollution, Risks to Marine Life, Solution: Marine Protected
Areas. This help my resource to make a change in the world by protecting the environment. The
ocean is a vital resource that provides food, water, commerce, recreation, medicine and even the
air we breathe. Today, our ocean faces unprecedented threats from pollution, trash, risks to
marine life and multiple impacts from climate change(ThankYouOcean.org). Some actions we
all take every day that can help to keep our ocean a healthy and thriving place.
(ThankYouOcean.org).
If everyone would help to save the earth we would live in a safe environment. People
should be conscious about the harm that they are causing in the environment. The air pollution is
a big problem that we do not notice in the moment that it is happening, but when it is worst. That
is why industries should plan popper so that we can prevent the water pollution and our
environment. All this resources have help me realize how bad this issue is, but now I think I will
try to make a difference by warning other people to make the right choice.
