Precipitation hardening
The precipitation hardening of an aluminium alloy is only possible if the alloy
contains an element, such as Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Silicon (Si) and/or
Magnesium (Mg), which has a decreasing solubility in aluminium at
decreasing temperatures.

The AA6082-T6 alloy


The well-known AA6082-T6 aluminium alloy, which composition and

mechanical proprieties are described in Table 2.4, is proposed as a material for


high duty applications, such as structural frames, pylons, towers and bridges.
