Global Warming
Global warming is one of the most complex issues facing society today. It
involves multiple phases and dimensions of our system; including politics,
economics, science, culture, society as whole, and ethical and moral questions. It is
a global problem felt on large and local scales, and will be around for decades and
be left for future generations. Not to mention the percentage of us who believe
global warming is only a myth which makes the issue all more difficult and
significant. Global Warming is real, and could pose one of the greatest threats to
humanities to date. The evidence of its existence is irrefutable. According to NASAs
graph based on the comparison of atmospheric samples contained in ice cores and
more recent direct measurements, since 1950 to date, the carbon dioxide level in
the atmosphere has risen from 300 million to 400 million tons. The 650,000 years
prior has never been above 300 million. The arctic ice caps are also declining by
13.3% per decade causing a 3.24 millimeter rise in sea level per year according to
NASA. Global Warming is causing a shift in animal and plant behavior, an increase in
the amount of droughts, an increase in the temperature, and a complete change in
weather patterns which practically affects everyone living on planet earth (which
should be everyone hopefully). To hopefully solve this problem will require two
things. One, to reduce the amount of emissions that are created and look for other
alternative options. Second, to adapt to the amount we have already released.

The best way to limit global warming is to eliminate the source of it. Which is
the pollution of big manufacturing plants. Society needs to limit the amount that is
produced and slowly integrate alternatives into replace the harmful toxins that
cause global warming and climate change. This will allow the ecosystem time to
adapt to the idea of climate change and global warming. This allows to make sure
vital recourses and necessities to humanities survival such as food production and
fresh water quantity are intact and in plentiful supply. This idea is known as
mitigation; to reduce and limit the amount of harmful toxins allowed into the
ecosystem and biosphere but not to completely eradicate it. The only way to
eradicate the entirety of global warming is over a long period time with a very
limited amount or no toxins and pollution into the earth. Mitigation is the most
effect way to combat global warming and should be used more in the near future
with enough support. The second part of the solution is to adapt to the amount of
global warming. In other words decrease our vulnerability to the environment
society is creating. A stable climate has been crucial to the development of
humanitity and modern society and as it changes we must as well. This is why
Mitigation is so important and why Mitigation and human adaption intertwine.
Climate change needs to be slowed enough to where humans can catch up and
adapt to it. Air pollution kills 3.3 million people worldwide a year, including 55,000
Americans (Adams, Jill). The climate is changing too fast for humans to adapt
causing an excess of deaths worldwide which is why this specific issue affects
everyone and should be a top priority but instead is almost ignored by some and
only becomes worse.
The collaboration of mitigation and adaption works because we do not have
to completely eradicate the problem and can instead slowly integrate alternatives to

fossil fuels and other energy producing resource that may produce harmful toxins
and contribute to global warming. As we slowly integrate these alternatives, it will
not have a huge impact on the economy due to the fact that we do not have to
solve an immediate crisis threatening humanities existence, and can instead solve
the problem in the long term allowing the economy in the short term and the long
term to stay intact because it does not take a huge financial blow to put the solution
into effect. However, if society does not force itself to really take the dramatic first
step on the enlightened path to a harmful free climate change world, humanity
could face a crisis and a fight for its own survival.
The solution to global warming is practically buy enough time for humanity to
adapt to climate change. It is slow integrating and will have little effects on other
aspects of society such as the economy and politics. Society needs to take the steps
to do this; to kick start a simple solution that will help everyone worldwide. How
much trust can we put in ourselves to save ourselves? The answer to this question,
whether sooner or later will arrive at the doorstep, its just a matter of whether we
are going to lock the door and hide under the bed or face it on the doorstep.
