STANDARD 1
The teacher understands how learners grow and develop,
recognizing that patterns of learning and development
vary individually within and across the cognitive,
linguistic, social, emotional and physical areas, and
designs and implements developmentally appropriate and
challenging learning experiences"

RATIONAL STATEMENT

Prior to teaching it is important to better

understand the students and their
environment. In order to teach and understand
students, the teacher must be aware of different
cultures and back grounds.

NATURE OF PUBLIC EDUCATION

SYSTEM IN A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY

A tuition-free, publicly funded system that will provide an education to each child in a neighborhood school within a publicly
governed school system.

Parents and the general public can be involved in school activities and get detailed information about the schools in their area.

The public schools were founded in part to create an informed citizenry through a curriculum that formally promotes common
knowledge, skills and dispositions allowing for authentic engagement in the business of a democracy.

PURPOSE OF PUBLIC EDUCATION

SYSTEM IN A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY
Prepare people to become responsible citizens;
improve social conditions; promote cultural
unity; help people become economically selfsufficient; and to enhance and enrich individual
happiness and lives

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE
PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM IN A
DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY
Funding comes from the state, local, and federal
government.
Public school students must be offered a curriculum
and an environment free from the inculcation or
primacy of any specific religion, social class, or ethnic
group.
The ability to think critically, a sense of efficacy, a
commitment to compassionate action, and a desire to
actively participate in political life by engaging in local
decision-making processes, lobbying, voting, etc., as
well as the basic need to be able to read, write and do
arithmetic.

PERSONAL CAREER CHOICES

In my case, I have several career choices, because I have two
different college Degrees.
My Human Services Associates Degree gives me several options
from social work, counseling, working with people in Addictions,
and many other choices.
My second Degree is in General Studies and this is helpful for
sales, clerical, customers service, and etc. In my opinion though,
this degree doesnt expertise in anything particular.
I am interested in three different careers: addictions, probation
officer, and teaching. All three of these require college education
and at least an Associates Degree.
Next year, I think I am going to check into doing some substitute
teaching.
