Reflection
I did a group project with Luis, researching the pros and cons about the PARCC test. We learned
that the test preparation for the PARCC takes a very long time and it is a lengthy test. Not all
states are offering the PARCC test only specific ones. The test is fairly inexpensive costing only
$30 and focuses on what the kids really know instead of just memorizing the right answer. The
Common Core State Standard does stress critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills
that are required in order to be successful and have a career. I think the students should try to
always think critically and learn to brainstorm or solve problems on their own. Managers and
teachers have to problem solved on their own eventually and have the skill to think critically
about challenging situations. When classrooms let children work collaboratively in groups and
share ideas, the children are more likely to be successful. The children will have ideas from
people of all different races and genders created a huge amount of diverse ideas. Also, when it
comes to solving problems they will be extremely successful compared to groups of the same
children. The teacher should see what the children need room for improvement on and the
parents should follow up with their childrens progress. In Illinois there are 9 Professional
teaching standards that teachers need to comply with. Moreover, they have to teach diverse
groups of students, understand discipline or sexual interactions, plan for differentiation on
instruction, and learn the environment around them (health). The teacher should understand how
to be professional and not be sexual with the students. They need to dress appropriately and be
ready to teach children with every method of learning. Each child understands things differently
weather they are visual learners, hands on, or hearing learners. The last standards are the teacher
needs to be able to give assessments, create professional leadership and advocacy, create
collaborative relationships, give instructional delivery, and deliver reading, writing, or oral
communication skills. The teacher should be leading the children to do better and push their
abilities to another level. The children should feel that they can go to the teacher to talk and the
parents should be actively involved in making sure their child is learning just as well as the rest
of the children. Each child as well as the teacher should be accountable for their grades or
actions, respectful to one another, and be professional while learning. The children need to be
properly taught how to do mathematics, science, and social studies. This needs to be taught by
using visual learning and hands on learning where the child can learn to do the work themselves.
The goals of social and emotional learning are to make the children and teacher more aware of
their surroundings or learning environment being more self-aware. A teacher should know when
to report suspicions of abuse or neglect to the DCFS hotline especially as mandated reporters.

The parents should provide adequate supervision, medical care, food, clothing, and shelter at all
times. If a child is not receiving this then the teacher needs to report the problem just in case. The
possible indicators for physical abuse are burns, welts, bruises, or marks on the body. These
should be reported to the hotline if they have a reason to believe this is happening. On the other
hand if the child is being sexually abused the main signs are sexual knowledge beyond what is
age appropriate, reoccurring pain or itching in the genitals, or sleeping with multiple layers of
clothing. This should be reported if there are any suspicions about the child possibly being
sexually abused and you should not ask the child every detail of their abuse. Report this abuse
right away and a written communication confirmation report will be given within 48 hours.
Investigating the situation can only help you help someone else or save a life. Also, the teacher
should demonstrate to students how to make decisions on their own and develop better decision
making skills so that they can learn how to solve problems in their career later down the road.
Lastly, the social skills of each student should improve each year. The students should
collaboratively work together, and be put in diverse groups so that they generate a huge amount
of new ideas that are different. They will solve problems more efficiently and effectively by
working with people who are much different from them. In addition, each child should be
evaluated on how well they are completing assignments, what kind of learner they are, how well
they communicate with others, how well they problem solve, and what needs room for
improvement so they can continue to be smarter each year. Overall, in the group project we both
did the same amount of work, worked collaboratively, learned from each others decisions, and
created better social skills. If I had to do this project again or study these materials on teaching I
would over and over again.
