Passive:
[Thing receiving action] + [be] + [past participle of verb] + [by] + [thing
doing action]
The car was cleaned by Matt and James yesterday.
The Oscar wasn't won by Sarah.
Are these books written by your father?
We use the passive:
a) to focus on the subject/object
ex: The King was killed by his people.
This song was performed by the Doors.
b) when we know/don't know the subject
ex: The bank was robbed (by someone).
The plane was shot down (by someone).
