Punjab Engineering College

Punjab Engineering College is presently called as PEC University of Technology and this
institution was actually established in the name of Mugalpura Engineering College at Lahore,
which presently belongs to Pakistan in the year 1921. Later, the name was changed as
Maclagan Engineering College and it began its operations on the 19th of March 1924 with
this new name. Again, in the year 1931, the college was affiliated to the Punjab University
and after partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, the college was moved to Roorkee and
was given a new name as East Punjab College of Engineering. In the year 1950, the word
east was dropped and therein after the institution was began to be called as Punjab
Engineering College.
Towards the end of December 1953, the college was moved to its present campus in
Chandigarh with a view to bring it under the government of Punjab. In the year 1966, with
the formation of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, the college was brought under the
control of the government of India. In 2003 on the month of October, government of India
issued a notification to the effect that Punjab Engineering College will be a deemed
university. In the year 2009, the institution/university was given a new name called PEC
University of Technology.
