President's Note - Tia Merwin
Ihope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
The two weeks prior to Thanksgivingmy familywent to Hawaii for a
family reunion. My mom was born and raised in Hawaii and ithad been
exactlyone year since my grandmother passed away. My parents wanted
the whole family to head back over for a family reunion and visit my
grandparents gravesite. It was so wonderful to spend time with my entire
family in Hawaii. We hadn't all been together there since 1998 and there
have been several family additions since that time!
I love the people, the food and the lifestyle of Hawaii. I was able to visit
my former work and boss and see longtime family friends. The kids
loved the beach and all the sea creatures. It turns out Malachi is a boogie
boarding pro! I couldn't get him out of the water, even when it was
pouring rain. One day we were the only ones on the beach due to all the
rain, but it was still 74 degrees, so it was fine by me!
My grandfather used to teach college courses on military bases and in
2000 I was able to take one of his political science classes on Kaneohe
Marine Corps Base (KMCB). Since my brother is an officer in the ARMY,
we were able to go back on base and visit all the places my grandfather
used to take us. One family tradition was to have pizza on the pierat
KMCB. We upheld the tradition after visiting their gravesites even though
the sun had long ago set and it was completely dark. We got to listen to
several military planes and helicopters doing drills at night. It makes me
so thankful to live here and feel so safe in our country. I have so much
respect for all military workers and their families.
I hope you are able to spend lots of time with your family and loved ones
this holiday season.

Every year MOMS Club of Eugene sponsors a family or an organization in
need for the holiday season. We give themneeded items and some
holiday gifts as well.
This year, we have selected Hope Ranch as the recipient for our holiday
cheer. Their mission is to heal women who have been rescued from

The Director of Hope Ranch is very excited that we have selected her
organization for our donations. She sent a list of items, both necessary

Even if the slots are filled, please donate whatever you feel comfortable
giving.
They also welcome used/opened cosmetics like shampoo and
conditioner, nail polish, face creams, makeup etc that we may have
purchased and didn't like.
None of the items need to be wrapped. The director will match the items
with each of the women staying with them. They will have 3 women with
them at Christmas and 3 more women they work with that they want to
donate some items to as well.
Please bring your donations to the Member Social on December 10th. If
you can't make it, we can meet you at another time to pick up your
donations. We want to have all of the items to Hope Ranch by the 21st of
December.

Craft of the Month: Santa Binoculars

These cookies are SO good! They aremy family'sfavorite.

Ingredients:
cups Butter, Softened
1 cup Granulated Sugar
teaspoons Vanilla Extract
1 whole Egg
1 teaspoon Lemon Zest
1 Tablespoon Fresh Lemon Juice
teaspoons Salt
teaspoons Baking Powder
teaspoons Baking Soda
1 cup Allpurpose Flour
cups Powdered Sugar

HEY! What happened to the Member Meeting? We have decided to change
the name of the meeting to a social to better describe the event.
Please join us at our next member social on Thursday, December
10that 10am at Wesley United Methodist Church.

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease light colored baking sheets with
non stick cooking spray and set aside.
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Whip in vanilla, egg, lemon zest and juice. Scrape sides and mix again.
Stir in all dry ingredients slowly until just combined, excluding the
powdered sugar. Scrape sides of bowl and mix again briefly. Pour
powdered sugar onto a large plate. Roll a heaping teaspoon of dough
into a ball and roll in powdered sugar. Place on baking sheet and repeat
with remaining dough.
Bake for 911 minutes or until bottoms begin to barely brown and
cookies look matte {not melty or shiny}. Remove from oven and cool
cookies about 3 minutes before transferring to cooling rack.
*If using a non stick darker baking tray, reduce baking time by about 2
minutes.

Playgroup Corner

Helping Hands Program

Part of the support we have in MOMS Club of Eugene is helping each
other during times of family additions, upheaval, andstress. This is not
just limited to having a baby, things like moving or illness in the family
also warrant a need for this program. Our Helping Hands program
provides moms with assistance, usually givingseveral meals in a time of
need. However, this program can provide more than just meals. We
can arrange assistance with childcare, running errands, even a phone
tree! We want all of our members tobenefit from this program in a time
of need and we are more than willing to customize an
assistanceschedule that works well for each situation. Please let us know
if a circumstance should arise in your life and you feel this program

Playgroups are a great way to connect with Moms of kids with similar
ages. Starting September 2015, we are asking that all regular birthyear
playgroups meet on Tuesday or Wednesday, so they don't conflict with
the allages playgroups.
