Lower case v

(please preview page 110 to see the

correct formation)

-using the lines on the white board, show the class the correct
way to make a lower case v. Also, show the class the correct sound
that it makes (teach them to bite their lip when they make this
sound). While you are printing this letter, we also make the sound.
Dont feel embarrassedwe do this everyday.
-after you make 7-8 correct vs on the board, the class practices
the letter and sound over and over again in their folder. After 1-2
minutes of their practice, put folders away. Some kids like to circle
their best one
-have the class take out their handwriting book in their desk and
preview with them the three lines of lower case vs and read the words
outloud with them on the bottom of page 110 and the top line of page
111.
-please monitor their printing for neatness and accuracy

Reading

Review of sight words and story

-using the bones that I left, review the words with the class over
and over again for about five minutes. (we usually do many times of
class reading, then I pick individuals to read, then we do class readings
again where I hold the last one and the class guesses the held word)
-pair up the students quickly (doesnt really matter today and DO
NOT allow them to pick their own buddy) and have them read A Big
Fish for Max in their Reading Street book over and over again for
about 6 minutes. You need to partner read with Rafe. He struggles.
-Chart 7

Display the poem on the white board in the

gathering area. Have the class sit in their same partners with a white
board and pencil. Give each PAIR one sheet of paper and have them
copy the chart sh/th/ al sound chart onto their paper. (show your
sample that I left you)
Either read the poem outloud, or you can play the
CD of it sung for the class a couple of times. Afterwards, have the
partners QUIETLY find words within the poem that go in each column.
Weve done this activity a handful of times so they know the drill.
Share results together after about 5 minutes of searching.

Nouns are a person, place, thing

of picture cards and have the class tell you if that object is a person,
place, or thing.

-use the overhead projector to do transparency 312 together.

partners take turns rolling the 2 dice and coloring in their sum
on the graph.
4. Pair up the students, give them 2 dice and 2 papers and allow
them to work for a bit.
5. Hand out worksheet 23a/b. Complete side 23a as a class

Bullying

1. we learned about bullies on Tuesday. Ask the class what they

remember.

trouble) and telling (to keep someone safe). Use the role plays
in the teacher manual to decide if the situation is tattling or
telling. Ask for examples of adults whom we can tell.
