No School

subtraction. I am so proud of every student J their

progress was amazing! Now we are starting Unit 5, this

a day off for everyone

New this Month

Personal Goals I have started to
ask the students to make a
personal goal for their school day.
Then, we discuss if we think we
have met our goals at the end of
the day. It is MY personal goal to
keep up the positive goal making
throughout the month of
February! J

Telling Time This month I will no

longer answer the question What
time is it?. I will expect the
students to be able to answer this
question themselves by the end of
the month. Also, I plan to do
times checks throughout the
day to keep the students
accountable.

Think Sheets

units main focus is on telling time and graphing/analyzing

data. I would suggest working at home on telling time.
Real world experience is the best way to learn.
Reading This month we are planning on doing some
major retuning of reading groups. Also, in my reading
groups my main focus is on comprehension.
Writing The students are still working hard with their
narrative writing. I am proud of the students progress!
We should be finishing up with the narrative unit before
conferences. I am excited to share their work with you!
Science/Social Studies This month we are starting a unit
about water. The students will learn about its properties,
how it changes the
surface of our earth, why
it is important for our
bodies and much more.

WHAT HAPPENED IN JANURARY?

The Pony Express

We completed a 4-week unit over the Wild West! One highlight from our unit was learning about the
pony express. The students enjoyed pretending like they were working for a newspaper in the 1800s
that was making ads to promote the pony express. Then they shared with the class!

Kansas Day!
The students have been learning about Kansas symbols in class and we had a Kansas Day Celebration with
centers hosted by the 2nd grade teachers and Mrs. Williams from the learning commons J Then, we made
up Kansas poems, songs, raps, and much more with our book buddies. Some brave students even
presented in front of two 2nd grade classes and one 5th grade class. Great job guys!

Bill Martin Jr. Award Books

At Langston, classrooms could choose to be apart of a voting process with Bill Martin Jr. Award book
titles. Each class could read at least 5 of the books and then vote on their favorite. My best friend Hannah
(since 3rd grade!) even made a guest appearance to read to the class. We voted The Day The Crayons
Quit as our winner J
