COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course prepares students to locate, secure, keep, and change careers. Emphasis is placed
on self-assessment of characteristics, interests, and values; education and career exploration;
evaluation of career information and creation of a career plan. Based on the National Career
Development Guidelines, skills learned in this course include, but are not limited to
communications, interpersonal skills, problem solving, personal management and teamwork.
English language arts are reinforced. Work-based learning strategies appropriate for this course
include business/industry field trips, internships, job shadowing, and service learning. Student
participation in Career and Technical Student Organization, (CTSO) competitive events,
community service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to apply essential standards
and workplace readiness skills through authentic experiences.
By the end of this course, students will be able to apply instructional strategies and workplace
readiness skills contextually to authentic workplace experiences. Students would have created a
culminating Career Portfolio that they will be able to use in future business endeavors.

MISCELLANEOUS
Maintaining class notebook with notes, handouts, and pertinent information is required.
Notebook (Will be used to house material for their Student Career Portfolio),
Highlighter/Pen/Pencils, Ear buds or headset, and USB drive are to be brought to class each time.
Students are expected to keep up with their make-up work from any missed days. The student is
solely responsible for scheduling make-up tests or quizzes with the teacher. I am available
during Mondays afterschool from 3:00-4:15pm. For alternative times, students needing additional
tutoring will have to discuss and appointment with me to schedule specific times beyond the
traditional school day time frame.

CLASS ATTENDANCE POLICY


Attendance is essential to achieving academic success, as well as building character,
dependability, and responsibility. Therefore, students are required to attend all classes
regularly. Regular and punctual class attendance is essential to the students optimum scholastic
achievement.

MAKE UP WORK
Good attendance is vital to your understanding of the course materials, and the guidelines in the Student
Handbook are strictly enforced. The STUDENT is RESPONSIBLE for assignments when class has been
missed. It will be the RESPONSIBILITY of the STUDENT to make necessary arrangements with the
instructor (no later than THREE days following an absence). Incomplete assignments will be graded as
ZERO and will greatly affect the final grade. Students are present in class but do not complete
assignments in a timely manner will lose 25 points per day for the tardiness of the assignment or activity
as a result no assignments will be accepted after ONE day. If there are technical problems you should
bring this to the attention of the teacher IMMEDIATELY. There will be no individual extra credit
assignments assigned in the course. Opportunities may be provided at the instructor
discretion for additional assistance to the entire class.

COURSE PROJECTS

AND INITIATIVES

Students will implement a Final Project as a Comprehensive PBL. The class cohort will implement the PBL
for targeted audience. It is important for the success of this project for students to be actively involved
and at school prior to and during the implementation. Students who do not participate appropriately will
suffer a low grade to receiving a zero on assignment. Also, students will create an academic research
paper in a career related to CTE Pathway inside of Google Classroom. Students will partner with Media
Coordinator, Health Sciences Instructors and other school professionals. Students will present via a
Speakers Guild.
