SPE 634 Accommodations, Adaptations and Strategies Unit Design Project

Expectation
Through your Philosophical Foundation, you created a
theoretical construct providing the foundation for the unit
design, including a revision of your philosophy of education
and teaching. You explicitly paid attention to culture and
language
You effectively and appropriately presented and discussed
the Standards and Abilities guiding the development of the
curriculum. You included academic standards such as the
Common Core Standards (CCS), the Council for Exceptional
Children Standards, the Wisconsin Teaching Standards, and
the Advanced Graduate Education Abilities in your
discussion (at least 2 for each).
You effectively and appropriately developed a Completed Unit
Design that included a rationale, a thorough UbD template that
included standards, clearly articulated and aligned
understandings, essential questions, learning intentions and
objectives, identified assessment evidence, as well as an overview
of the learning plan. You also included 10 fully developed lesson
plans that included appropriate accommodations, modifications,
and learning strategies for students with exceptionalities, as well
as represented diversity in cultural and learning strategies.
You effectively and appropriately prepared the Sample
Assessment Items for the Learner. This included a rubric, a
diagnostic assessment, a traditional and alternate formative
assessment, a traditional and alternate summative assessment, a
performance task, as well as a plan for using portfolio assessment.

Evidence
Educational philosophy includes Bloom,
Gardner, and personal belief that all students
can learn.

I have identified at least 2 standards for each


and the rationale on how the unit lesson plans
demonstrate my abilities. I addressed
CCSS.ELA.7.1 & CCSS.ELA7.2, CES Standards
3.0 &4.0, Graduate Abilities of
Conceptualization and Diagnoisis, in addition to
WTS #1 & #3.

The unit plan has an appropriate UBD for a 7th


grade Language Arts plan.There are 10
lessongs appropriately designed for all learners,
the accommodations, and assessments -including rationales.

All assessments include appropriate rationales.


There is a pre-assessment for story elements
and close reading, a rubric on close reading,
summative vocab. formative on Icarus' Flight
and an explanation behind a porfolio
assessment.

Rationale for Assessment Design. In this discussion of the


assessment and evaluation, you described how you would
analyze the data from the assessments to determine
appropriate curricular adaptations and modifications, as
well as what learning would occur for you as the teacher.
You professionally and appropriately wrote a Rationale for
Teaching Accommodations, Adaptations, and Strategies.
Aligned to your disability area of concentration, you
included a thorough discussion of the teaching
accommodations, adaptations, strategies and/or
modifications chosen in your unit and why, including an
explanation of their relationship to developmentally
appropriate practice. In addition, you identified, described
and discussed adaptations such as time, complexity,
materials, goals, and levels of support related to the
concentration area. Information presented is appropriately
cited.

Cultural Classroom Strategies. You provided a scholarly


discussion of at least three appropriate classroom
strategies for culturally diverse learners. You included a

in your unit, which may have included a graphic

cultural or ethnic groups. Information is appropriately cited.
You professionally completed a Self-Assessment that
includes a narrative description of how and why you feel
that the lessons, assessment items, accommodation and
adaptation strategies, and cultural classroom strategies will
better prepare you for student teaching and your future
classroom. You also included questions that were raised
while creating the unit design project.

classroom. Differentiation and best teaching
practices also identified that some
accommodations are not just helpful for special
education students but all students.

Strategies identified include -Providing visuals for students, pre-teaching


vocabulary and new concepts, and providing
review for assessments. Rationale includes best
teaching practices.

The narrative identifies my reflection on


providing students with appropriate
accommodations and providing enough rigor
for students with coddling and not increasing
the rigor of work.
