Subject: Letter of Recommendation for Ms. Alaina Marr
To Whom It May Concer:
Ms. Alaina Marr student taught in the fall of 2015 at Emily Brittain Elementary School in Butler, PA.
had the privilege of being her college supervisor during her elementary education student teaching,
placement. She taught fourth grade in an urban school from the 13th of October to the 10" of
December in 4® grade. Having completed her Elementary Education major on the Dean's list with
high distinction, Alaina entered her practicum very well prepared. She met all of the student teaching
requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Grove City College Education
Department and the expectations of her cooperating teacher for her Elementary Education placement.
In both placements Ms, Marr utilized a variety of developmentally appropriate classroom
management strategies consistent with positive behavior support. She effectively used name
dropping, proximity, and withitness. She followed through with the online class “dojo” classroom
‘management plan providing students with immediate intrinsic positive reinforcement. Her open and
relational disposition motivated the students to engage during instruction and comply with class
behavioral expectations. During her intermediate placement, she has grown exponentially in her
confidence as the instructional leader and classtoom manager.
She demonstrated the full breadth of her instructional alignment with state standards in her cross-
curricular reading unit titled “Treasures.” During one observation while teaching her unit, [ observed
her clearly stating the purpose of a writing lesson which was to “demonstrate understanding of the
Mighty Jackie story and answer comprehension questions.” I was very impressed with her high
expectations for her fourth grade learners. She reviewed and modeled well what the writing project
‘would look like when work is well done. This included looking in the book for text evidence, using
correct grammar, and being ereative and original. Her modeling involved projecting on the Smart
Board a prototype in its finished state.
After her primary elementary education placement, her cooperating teacher and I agreed that she had
camed letter grade of “A.” At the end of her intermediate elementary education placement, we both
agreed she earned an outstanding *A” grade for student teaching. Having worked closely with Al
as her college supervisor for her elementary placement, | highly recommend her for a teaching
position in Elementary Education. If you would like to discuss her attributes in more detail, please
