needs of students with emotional, learning and intellectual disabilities.
Student Name: Ashlee Prudhomme
Instructor Name: Rachel Schuler
Expectation
The comprehensive log encompasses the skill areas
of reading, writing, math, study/organizational, and
behavioral skills.

Evidence
My log identifies the areas of reading, writing, math,
study and behaviorial in that order. It is clearly organized
and well planned. I included a description of the
technology, which disability category it would be best for
and the accommodations or modifications that would be
necessary to access that technology.
Each category of my log has the sufficient amount of
assistive technology for each category. I made sure to
include any website or mailing address needed to find
the specific technology. For example, I cited speech-totext as a reading assistive technology, then gave the
information and put the link to how to find a specific
example of a speech to text program, Dragon Naturally
Speaking. Example: "Students need access to technology
and will need to be able to annunciate and pronounce
the words they want to write clearly. Also the student has
to learn how to properly tell the program the
punctuation, which may be confusing.

There is a clear link between the

accommodation/adaptation and the disability areas
identified.

Dragon Naturally Speaking"

For each assistive technology identified, I explained how

the assistive technology would help that student. For
example in regards to colored overlays: Color overlays
are thin colored sheets that can be placed over text so
students can distinguish the letters more easily on the
page with the color. I clearly link how this would assist a
student.

For each adaptation or modification, there is a brief

but thorough description of how this tool/strategy
might assist the student to address a disability
related need, and how it may be necessary for their
success.

For each assistive technology identified, I explained how

the assistive technology would help that student. For
example in regards to alternative keyboards I describe
how this would help a student with LD by saying "These
programmable keyboards have special overlays that
customize the appearance and function of a standard
keyboard. Students who have LD or have trouble typing
may benefit from customization that reduces input
choices, groups keys by color/location, and adds graphics
to aid comprehension."

Briefly reflect on and discuss how this project has impacted (or will impact) your instruction with students in
order to increase student achievement and access to the general curriculum. Cite specific examples when
applicable.

By completing this assistive tehcnology log, I have now expanded my knowledge of assistive
technology devices exponentially. Now that I have all of this new knowledge of the available
assistive technology for my students, I can better apply and use these resources to give them the
access to the general education curriculum. I can identify which resources that I could easily
implement in order to improve student success within the classroom. For example, the Google Doc
add-ons such as Speech-to-Text would be an easy adaptation to apply with my current 4th grade
student with SLD, who is able to orally dictate his thoughts much better than paper and pencil. The
school already uses Google Docs so it would be an easy application and download to use with the
student. This was a learning experience that will be able to be used in my current job and beyond.
