Inequalities of the world
Racism, sexism, people not being able to express themselves without the fear of getting
judged. This society is as closed minded as ever. Inequality most definitely exist. Not just in
Heritage High School, not just in the U.S., its a worldwide disease that has been effecting
humans for hundreds of years. Inequality is all over the world, but especially in the categories of
gender, identity and race; too many societies all over the world make diverse and different people
social outcasts.
It happens to everyone and everywhere, but for some reason it seems to be making an
appearance more in racism. An Australian Apple store fired black teens. Now this may not be out
of the normal because people get fired everyday but their reasoning is astonishing. They had
absolutely no reason at all, the manager said, I was afraid they were going to steal something.
These teens werent acting suspicious or out of the ordinary. The only thing different about them
was their skin color (Fox News Lame Apologies). Tis the season, right? Not for the Netherlands.
Black Pete is the talk of the country. What used to be a fun folk tale is now one of the biggest
racial issues theyve faced. Black Pete is a troublesome servant who is always in chains, and who
take the naughty little boys and girls away. Now, we have a movie that is titled Krampus and it
has the same idea. The only thing that rubbed the Netherlands the wrong way is that Black Pete
is black, obviously. The way he is portrayed is the reason why hes such a problem (Black Pete

BBC News). The well-known book To Kill a Mocking Bird that is set back in the 1930s
contributes to this subject. 1930s was a time that racism was very much alive. In chapter 11 Mrs.
Dubose is the center of attention, she of course, is a very racist, ignorant, old woman. She insults
Atticus Finch many times, but one that stood out was when she said to Scout and Jem Your
daddy is just as good as the trash he works for. She was referring to Tom Robinson, the black
man Atticus was defending, as trash, only based on his skin color (Lee, Harper, To Kill a
Mocking Bird, New York: 1960, print). These are just a few examples of how racism is still an
issue today. Some other major inequality issues are gender and identity.
Again we see the struggle of inequality but this time in gender and identity, mostly
effecting women and the lower class. Everywhere in the work field women are unequal. Women
are paid 77 cents to every mans dollar. Robosts survey shows that even if women and men are
both equally skilled in an area men are more likely to get hired. Robost filled out resumes for
100 people, all having the same skills and the same experience, only thing different was their age
and gender. Most of the callbacks were for young males. Only about 10% of the callbacks were
for older women; showing how people favor males over women, for no reason. (huffington.post).
women, I need you to contribute to our country by baring more sons. He didnt say by fighting
for them or stepping up in the work field, but by having more male children. Japans government
official Suga believes the way his nations women can help their situations is only by having
more sons. This is just plain out ignorant thinking (huffington.post). To Kill a Mocking Bird
come into play with this one also. Lee expresses how people are treated different because their
identity. Walter Cunningham in chapter two is embarrassed in front of his whole class when Ms.
Caroline tells him to come get a nickel; but he knows he cannot pay her back. Everyone knows
the Cunninghams are poor people, who dont take anything they cannot repay or make-up for.

The children all treat him differently knowing this, like when Walter came over to the Finchs for
supper. But hes gone drowned his food in syrup. Said Scout, Atticus later explains to some
people dont have syrup every night. (Lee, Harper, To Kill a Mocking Bird, New York: print).
Why does all this inequality even matter? It matters because people are treating other
people different because of how much pigment they have in their skin, and judging them simply
because they dont have a Y chromosome. How is it fair to treat someone differently and judge
them off of something they cannot control? This quote is one that will pull all of these crazy facts
together in one sentence. There should be no discrimination against languages people speak,
skin color, or religion. (Brainy Quotes)
