PROBLEM DEFINITION
PROPOSED SITE:

Italian Limited is opening their first American sales and importing operation in the
Southeast. They will be opening in a three-story building with a Northern view of the bay
outside the city where the cargo ships pass through the channel. The other exposures
face surrounding buildings and parking lot.

COMPANY IMAGE:

Italian Limited imports fine Italian art and wholesaler of fine Italian goods. Since their
office is the major headquarter for all the Northeastern United States, Italian Limited is
very open to creative, innovative ideas to reinforce the successful image already established.
The new offices provide space for administrative functions, sales, marketing, show room
and common areas that include:

The interiors commission will need to program the office space and showroom requirements. The Italian Limited intends to lease enough space for the present and five year
expansion. It is up to the designer to propose to the client how to utilize the space,
whether the client should occupy just one floor or all three floors. The client is flexible to
what floor the company should be located on taking into consideration visitor traffic,

product delivery and the utilization of space over time. The client is the main tenant and
therefore has final say on the rest of the space for future growth if the demand is there.
Italian Limited will retain architects to review the final design for mechanical and electrical implementation to insure the design meets local building codes.

When exiting the elevator, customers should see the receptionist and corporate graphics

security desk, which will be used as a security station at night.
The show room should be flexible since the company sponsors shows, meetings, and
exhibits the current product line. The purpose of the show room is to give exposure to
Italian products that include consumer products, textile, leather, toursim and travel, and
XJOFBOECFWFSBHFT5IFTIPXSPPNFYIJCJUBSFBTIPVMEIBWFBDBTVBMTFBUJOHBSFBGPSTJY
people to have a small meeting or relaxed conversation. The material selection in this
area should be creative but practical since displays will be changing and walls will have
hooks that will be installed and removed frequently.
There should be a close circuit TV system that can scan the area for security. The display
area is kept locked unless a showroom staff is with the visitor. The elevator is key operated if need be and the glass windows are also on a security system.
Employees are very important to the overall operation of the company. An employee
lounge and dining area is required since the building is located away from any restaurants. This area should seat twenty people and have a small kitchen and three vending
machines.
The controller will need a lot of filing drawers for computer printouts and inventory
control, along with other cabinet storage.
