Final Metacognitive Reflection Semester I

1. I think that I could have improved my initial summer reading paragraphs by explaining
ideas rather than listing information that answers the question, kept the essay in present
tense, elaborated each answer, and much more. The summer reading sample just started
getting me warmed up and refreshed my memory on how to write a good CER paper.
2. I believe that I have grown a lot as a writer. Originally I would always try to explain my
claims in the least amount of detail as possible but now I actually try to convey my point
through strong examples and powerful reasoning. Also, I learned how to write papers in
MLA format and how to write good loop paragraphs.
3. I have been challenged in writing in present tense because I sometimes cannot
differentiate the difference between past and present tense and also I have been
challenged in coming up with new ideas because I try harder to think outside of the box
than the easy stuff.
4. To overcome these struggles, I try to research more on the story and look into the
character and his or her traits. Also, I try to re-read my paper in order to avoid past tense
writing and sometimes ask a peer to read and correct my paper.
5. I feel like I need to improve my use of vocabulary in my writing and that I should focus
more on important parts of the topic so that I do not write excess unnecessary
information. Also I should focus on not procrastinating my work and projects and doing
everything ahead of time.
6. I am particularly proud of my short story essays because I really understood the stories
and had very strong emotions towards them. Also, in the short story essays, I challenged
myself to do stuff outside of the box such as writing from the antagonists perspective.
7. I really like and approve of the loop structure because it neatly organizes each statement
and reasoning into sections and it clearly shows how each loop proves the claim. Also it
is very organized and easy to follow.

8. Mrs. Eaton shows how to write a clear loop paragraph and gives us multiple examples to
make sure we understand the correct way to write loop paragraphs and MLA format. Also
she is always in contact and we can easily ask questions to her from home and it is very
convenient. Mrs. Eaton is a very good teacher who knows what she is doing and has
many strengths.
9. Mrs. Eaton could probably give us more than just four topics to base our paper off of and
could probably also give us different types of papers such as letters or memoirs etc. to
help us learn different types of writing.
10.
As a writer, I get frustrated when I cannot decide how to write something down or
when I cannot think of another reason to support my claim. I hope that I will learn more
different techniques to improve my writing next semester.
