understand mr Mandela's ability to lead. It also helped me understand the effect he had on

Kaplan, Grant. Personal interview. 5 Oct. 2015. Grant Kaplan is a practicing South African
immigration attorney. I chose to interview him because he was living in South Africa
during the time Nelson mandela was fighting to end apartheid. This interview helped me
in numerous ways. The first way is that it helped me was because it taught me that blacks
and whites were kept separately under the apartheid government. Another way it helped
me is because it taught me that the whites were taught that Nelson Mandela was a
criminal and a terrorist. Lastly this source was useful to me because it helped me learn
that the South African government didn't really know how to operate an equal
government because they were discriminated against black South Africans.

article is speaking about how Nelson Mandela changed the government in South Africa.
One of the effects he had on the government was letting black politicians be more

prominent. This newspaper article helps me understand how Nelson Mandela had a huge
effect on South African politics.

article describes Mandela's arrival in the U.S after his release from prison. He is there to
seek support against apartheid. It describes America's excitement to honor him. They
consider him a hero.

an interview with Nelson Mandela. It points out De Klerk's belief in Mandela's
leadership. Mandela said that the negotiations with the right wing is very delicate. This
interview gives me an understanding of Nelson Mandela's qualities and what he had to
offer as a president such as the current president at the time believing in him as well as
him making negotiations with other political parties.

Bay, 1995. Print. This source was helpful to me for many reasons. For instance, it helped
me learn that when the South African government was an arpetheid government Nelson
Mandela was considered a terrorist. Another example of why this source was useful was
because it helped me learn that when Mandela was released from prison he was
recognized for his leadership as president for rebuilding back the government from being

a once segregated society. Lastly, this source was useful to me because it helped me
understand that South Africa today continues to push against its struggle with arpetheid.
Mandela, Nelson, et al. In His Own Words. New York: Little, Brown, 2003. Print. This book is a
compilation of some of Nelson Mandela's famous speeches. These speeches give us
insight in the difficulties faced by Mr. Mandela while trying to fight apartheid and keep
peace in South Africa. Mr. Mandela's words offer much wisdom for today's generation
and is an example on staying peaceful while fighting for change.

website was helpful to me for three reasons. One of reason is it helped me understand
how he survived 27 years of prison. It also helped me realize the legacy he left on South
Africa by dedicating his political career into ending apartheid. The last reason the website
was helpful is it explained to me how Nelson Mandela was a freedom fighter and how he
was willing to die for his cause.

Print. This book is a biography of Nelson Mandela's life. It gives insight on the different
stages of Mr. Mandela's life including his childhood. The book describes how these
experiences during Mr. Mandela's lifetime shaped him into the political leader that
brought about so much change. The book also describes how Mr. Mandela was very
conscious in his actions to protect his leadership status.

Mandela, Nelson. Interview by Larry King. 16 May 2000. This is an interview with Nelson
Mandela and Larry King. It helped me to gain a better understanding of Mr. Mandela's
experience in prison. It also helped me to understand why Mr. Mandela used peace to
accomplish the goals for his country. Is interview also helped me to see how humble Mr.
Mandela was.

couple reasons. The first reason is because it helps me understand how the country was
affected by arpetheid. Another reason on how the source is useful is because it helped me
learn how Mandela became a peaceful civil rights leader.

useful to me for numerous reasons. It provides tributes given by world leaders, and gives
information on how these leaders were impacted. Another reason why this website was
useful was because it states that he was recognized as a state figure to his country. The
last way in which the website helped me is it ptovided Mandela's famous speeches and
messages from 1950-2010 which not only impacted his country but the world.
