Analysis of a Movie/Documentary
Che
The Cuban Revolution was lead and conducted by Fidel Castros 26th of July Movement,
against the current government of Cuba during that time period, which was supported by the
United States. The revolution started in July 1953 and continued until January 1959, after the
rebels dethroned Batista at last. The biopic movie, Che, focuses on the rebellion of the Cuban
people to demolish the Batista regime in Cuba during the mid-twentieth century. Ernesto Che
Guevara appears in the opening of the film as an asthmatic, intellectual doctor, but proves to be a
strong, powerful leader for the rebels and the armed revolt against President Fulgencio Batista.
The movie features the failures and achievements of Fidels people as they work to restore Cuba,
and exhibits the reshaping of Cubas relationship with the United States. Through the work of
civilians, Batistas demise slowly unravels as Fidel Castro takes control of the country.
The revolution in this movie had a widespread impact on the characters, society, and
government, though it varied in effects. The Cuban Revolution, as shown in the movie, was a
source of optimism for the citizens of Cuba during that time period. Civilians were confident in
Fidel Castros abilities to recover Cuba and lead their country. The different communities in
Cuba, and the overall society was given hope, although many men in the country had to step up
and fight for Fidel, which sent a ripple of suffering across the country. The main characters,
including the commanders and lieutenants, grew tougher and stronger as the movie and the
Revolution progressed. They learned and adapted to the harsh conditions and evolved into skilled
leaders. The Batista regime suffered great losses in terms of military supplies and forces, as the
rebels perfected their guerrilla warfare techniques and forced entire towns to surrender to their
power. A side effect of the victorious Revolution was an outburst of corruption and crime in rural
Cuban areas. As Fidels forces traveled and took cover in the mountains, malice driven soldiers
fled their columns to rob, murder, and rape citizens living in rural areas of the mountains. If they
were caught, they were met with the punishment of death, which served as a warning to other
soldiers. In addition to this, Fidel did not intend to mass murder the army of Batista, but deaths
were considered collateral damage in cases in which it was unavoidable.
Although most of the effects of the Revolution in relation to the characters and
community occurred when the fight against Batista took place, there were a few major
repercussions mentioned in the movie that resulted because of the Revolution. One such example
of this was the replacement of Batistas government with a revolutionary socialist state. The most
prominent repercussions of the Revolution were the reshaping of Cubas relationship with the
United States, and the start of a time period in which Cuba intervened in foreign military
conflicts. The worldwide effects of the Cuban Revolution exhibited the transition in power and
the diversity of the leaders in control. The Cuban Revolution was the impetus for the world to
evaluate Cubas political and economic standpoints with greater scrutiny and attention.
