What is Poetry?
A literature work that expresses:

knowledge,
ideas
and emotions
to create images, understandings for the reader. The work
that could have rhymes, stanzas and verses.

What is Personification?
:Attribution of a personal nature or
character to animals,inanimate objects, or
abstract notions, especially as a rhetorical
figure.

How are Personification used?

When describing something (objects) in a literary work.

We could create an image of the object by making it have

live characteristics so we can see it clearer. We can
also give the object a more important characteristics so
we can relate to what we are reading.

Examples of Personification
Example 1:
She did not realize that
opportunity was knocking at
her door.

Example 2:
The moon winked at me through the clouds
above.

What is Metaphor?
:An

Expression,often found in
literature, that describes a person or object
by referring to something that is considered
to that person or object.
:Metaphor

is making something into

another thing which could be compared as if
they were the same thing (without using the
word like or as).

How are Metaphors used?

We can also use it as verbs,
adjectives, adverbs,
prepositional phrases etc.
In a poem, we use it to
compare something as if it is
another, so that the readers
can imagine further.

Examples of Metaphor
Example 1: He is the apple of my eye
There is, of course, no real apple in a person's eye. The
"apple" is someone beloved and held dear.

Example 2: She is fishing in troubled waters.

It does not mean the person is actually fishing; it is an

expression which is used to show that the person is
looking for something that is difficult to get.
