Exploring the Central Idea

Within Social systems our

decisions bring about
change

What is change?
The next few pages will help you consider what change is, what change the world is
currently going through and to think about who is affected by the changes. Look at the
changes below that have been organised into Global and Local. Discuss with your team the
sorts of changes have taken place globally, locally or personally.
A change ...
can be a challenge or risk
is complex in nature
creates an emotional response
involves different perspectives
can be controversial or interpreted using different perspectives
is something significant

Tic-Tac-Toe A Decision Making Change

Select one of your decisions from your brainstorm which you find particularly interesting.
Record the decision in the centre box of the grid below
Choose eight important words or facts relating to the decision you have chosen and
write each word in one of the boxes.

Draw a line joining three of the words in the grid.

Can you write a sentence that explains how these words are connected?

Action Ideas
Even though you are just beginning your Exhibition, it is important that you consider what action
or decision you can take in order to influence positive change now. These next pages are
provided to give you an opportunity to consider your chosen issue / decision from different
perspectives to identify where you can best take action that will make a difference.
My issue is...

I want to take action on this issue because...

How does this issue affect the world?

What action is needed to solve the issue?

Considering An Action Plan

From your list of action ideas, select one that you think fits the following criteria;
Proposed Action:

It has a clear target

It is something I can achieve
It will make a difference

If you ticked all three criteria above then use the chart below to help you think a little more
carefully about your proposed action and how you might make it happen.

WHY am I going to take

this action on the issue?

HOW can I take this action?

WHAT goals do I need to set in order to achieve

this action?
