Masters of Art in School Counseling
Managed a comprehensive and data-driven school counseling program, which aligned with both the North Carolina Professional School Counseling Standards
and the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) National Model. This program included, but was not limited to:
Individual Counseling
Counsel students grades 6th 8th, using person-centered and cognitive behavioral approaches to address assertiveness, behavioral issues, coping skills,
decision making, poor academic performance, relationships, etc.
Complete New Hanover County Schools Self-Harm and Suicide Protocol for 14 students (2014-2015 school year)
Complete New Hanover County Schools Self-Harm and Suicide Protocol for 5 students (2015-2016 school year)
Group Counseling
Facilitate groups based on parent, teacher and student recommendation; group topics included social skills, coping strategies, and leadership
Facilitate groups based on MTSS (formally RTi) data for Tier II/III with the use of Why Try? Curriculum
Facilitate group based on data and STAE (Striving to Achieve Excellence; county AVID-inspired program) criteria (2015-2016 school year)
Classroom Guidance
Conduct classroom guidance lessons based on school-wide values and county-recognized issues, including bullying, study skills and high school
readiness
Programs Implemented
Conduct information session for rising 6th grade students and parents/ guardians on the transition to middle school; visiting 5 elementary feeder
schools and presented to students on the transition to middle school
Generate and execute activities regarding college readiness during week-long initiative (Fall 2015)
Data Collection
Create a data collecting instrument (School Climate Survey) for students to complete mid- and end-of-year assessment; present data to stakeholders
during School Improvement Team (SIT) meetings
Create data-collecting instrument (Needs Assessment) for students to complete beginning and mid-year
Collect behavior data through FBAs (Functional Behavior Assessment) and create BIPs (Behavior Intervention Plans), as needed
