have the lubrication oil system together combined with the sterntube it is now possible to separate the systems. In addition the luboil for the hub will circulate. In the system there is also a sensor that measures the water content in the luboil. In case you have a shaft seal break down the water will not reach the hub and the propeller will not take any damage. Some ships that have had shaft seal leakage where water has entered the hub have encountered major damage to the propeller hub with the subsequent need for a major overhaul.
To save these costs the systems can be separated so
that the chances for damage by water ingress is greatly reduced. Any future leakage from a blade seal will be detected at an early stage by the water saturation monitoring unit. Repair can be arranged at an early stage and possibly to coincide with a scheduld docking.
