1. Briefly describe the following characters: Ralph: Ralph is a born leader and will make decisions for the good of the group. He also is ignorant to the feelings of people. Piggy: He is smart but limited physically Simon: He is a walking mess he faints and vomits, seems a little timid Jack: Charismatic bad boy. Sam & Eric: They seem somewhat polite and dont like to stand out Maurice: Maurice is Jacks follower but is not as mean Roger: Roger seems secretive and cruel Littluns: Young innocent little boys 2. How do the boys end up on the island? The story takes place in ww2 so the boys were sent away on a plane but it crashed onto an island 3. What do the boys have that becomes the symbol of authority in the society they form? The conch does. When the conch is blown that means a meeting is starting, during a meeting the only person who can talk is the one holding the conch. 4. What does the reader learn about Jack when he slashes the green candle buds? We learn that Jack is very violent. 5. Why does Jack Hesitate to kill the piglet with his knife? What does he promise will happen the next time he sees the pig? Jack Hesitates to kill the pig with his knife because he know you have to slit the throat before you eat it. He cannot handle the amount of blood. He promises that next time he will kill it 6. What does a little un think he has seen in the forest? The littleun thinks he saw some sort of a monster 7. How and why do the boys make a fire?
They use Piggys glasses as a burning magnifying glass. They
made it because they wanted a signal for passing planes and ships. 8. Why does the boys plan for rescue fail? Jack said that the "hunters should be responsible keeping the fire lit. Unfortunately, on the day that Ralph spotted a passing ship, Jack decided that he need all of his hunters to hunt a pig. Resulting in the fire being left unattended so it was out when the ship passed by.
