Central Cabarrus High School STEM Academic, Attendance, and Code of Conduct Policy

The Central Cabarrus High School STEM Academic, Attendance, & Code of Conduct Policy (AACC) outlines the
expectations for students regarding academic performance, attendance, and behavior. The CCHS STEM program is
committed to providing a safe, engaging learning environment for all students. In accepting admission to the STEM
program, students have indicated they value excellence and high standards in their program content. Adherence to
this policy is vital to maintain the integrity of the STEM program. Below are the academic, attendance, and
behavioral guidelines for students in the CCHS STEM program:
Academics
As of spring 2015 and following the new, state-wide 10-point grading scale, a students overall grade average
must be 80 with no failing grade in any course.
A student who earns an average of a 79 (C) or below at the mid-point of a STEM-required course will be
placed on probation. The mid-point of a course is defined as:
o At the conclusion of the 1st grading period of a semester-long course
o At the conclusion of the 2nd grading period of a year-long.
In the event a student is placed on probation, the student and a parent/guardian will be invited to attend a
conference with the STEM coordinator and teacher(s) in order to develop an intervention plan. This plan will
remain in effect for the remainder of the course.
To be removed from probation, the students overall grade average must be 80 in all STEM courses during
the semester he/she is placed on probation.
A student on probation who earns a 79 (C) average or below in all STEM courses for the final grade will
remain on probation for no more than one additional semester. As the completion of that semester, if the
student has not maintained an 80 average in his/her courses, the student will be removed from the program.
A student not previously on probation who earns a 79 (C) average or below in all STEM courses for the final
grade may either be placed on probation or removed from the program. In this event, teachers will be
solicited for their input. A mandatory conference between the student, parent, STEM Coordinator and
principle will occur to determine the students place in the program.
The CCHS Administration and STEM team reserve the right to enforce the guidelines above as appropriate.
Attendance
Attendance to class is vital for any student to experience academic success. Due to the fact that STEM
students consistently work in collaborative groups in their STEM courses, regular attendance is even more
critical.
Once a student has missed more than (8) days of any course, the student and a parent/guardian will be
required to attend a conference with the STEM coordinator and teacher(s) in order to develop an intervention
plan. This plan will remain in effect for the remainder of the course.
If a student misses more than 8 days in any course, the student will be placed on probation for the remainder
of the course and be required to make up time.
If a student fails to make up time due to excessive absences OR if a student misses more than 13 days of a
course and is denied credit, he/she may be removed from the program.
The CCHS Administration and STEM team reserve the right to enforce the guidelines above as appropriate.

Code of Conduct
STEM Students are expected to adhere to the same Code of Conduct policy as any other CCHS student. Failure to
do so will result in the normal disciplinary actions.
A student who continually disrupts the learning environment of the STEM program, including failure to uphold
the Cabarrus County Schools Discipline and Student Code of Conduct or ethical standards specific to his/her
STEM program may be removed from the program.
A student whose behavior leads to long-term suspension from school and thus is unable to complete his/her
STEM requirements will be removed from the STEM program.
The CCHS Administration and STEM team reserve the right to enforce the guidelines above as appropriate.

A students standing in the STEM program, including his/her dismissal from the program, will be the decision of the
school principle. Removal from the STEM program may result in a student returning to his/her home or zoned
school. Although the general guideline regarding the implementation of the school rules, attendance policy and code
of conduct provided in the schools student handbook, the school principle reserves the right to consider any
extenuating or mitigating circumstances in determining the appropriate punishment for a disciplinary infraction.
I understand that any violation to the CCS County Student Code of Conduct of Attendance policy will result
in academic and disciplinary action.
