BETTER MAN WEEKEND 2016 RECAP

SHAPING THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW

THANK YOU FOR
CONNECTING
WITH US!
#ASPBETTERMAN

Better Man Weekend took place on

January 15-17 and 22-24 in St. Louis,
Missouri. Two weekends saw over
1,000 undergraduate brothers attend
the program to grow upon their
leadership skills and embrace the
brotherhood of Alpha Sigma Phi at
an international level.
Over 140 chapters and colonies sent
their President, Vice President,
Treasurer, Recruitment Director,
Scholarship Director, Membership
Education Director, Sgt-At-Arms, and
Alumni Director to the conference.
Helping make their experience
second-to-none were 80 volunteers,
many of whom were alumni of the
Fraternity.
Whether it was singing a boisterous
rendition of The Loyalty Song or
exchanging ideas in society meetings,
Better Man Weekend provided plenty
of opportunities for brothers to
network, connect, and gain an even
greater appreciation of the Old Gal.
1. Sergeants-At-Arms practice holding
each other accountable in a large group
session.
2. All eight attendees from the Theta Eta
Colony at Nevada join the Cardinal &
Stone Undergraduate Giving Society.

3. John Chaney, Indiana 67 speaks

during a memorial ceremony in
remembrance of the late Brother
Robert Sandercox.
4. Brothers from Beta Zeta (NC State)
and Theta Zeta (Utah State) see the
sights together following Better Man
Weekend.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION UPDATE

BETA RHO HOLDS

FIRST ANNUAL ALUMNI EVENT

David Scarberry (middle), Toledo 13, receives a check on behalf of

the Beta Rho Chapter from Jim Layman (left), Toledo 77 and Dave
Fockler (right), Toledo 75,and the rest of the Alumni Association.

Undergraduate members and alumni of the Beta Rho

Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi at the University of Toledo
got together to celebrate their brotherhood in December.
Seventy-five alumni and guests convened with 27 undergraduate
members of Beta Rho at Libbey Mansion in downtown Toledo,
Ohio.
During the event, Alumni Association President Dave Fockler
and Alumni Association Treasurer Jim Layman presented a $500
check to Chapter President David Scarberry. A silent auction was
also held, totalling $5,000 toward the Beta Rho Chapter
Endowment. These gifts went directly into the Chapters
Endowment for the group to use for educational purposes
such as registration to Grand Chapter this summer.
A lot of planning went into this event, which made it all the
more enjoyable seeing brothers from six different decades in
attendance, said Fockler. Everyone had a great time, so we
are now scheduling the second annual event.

UPCOMING EVENT

Gamma Upsilon (Eastern Michigan) welcomed their alumni

brothers to connect with them in mid-January. Alumni members
of the Chapter gave their undergraduate brothers an Alpha
Sigma Phi flag (pictured above) to hang proudly in their house.
Gamma Upsilon re-chartered on January 8, 2016. An important
part of their sustained success will be having a solid
relationship with their alumni brothers. So far, it seems
the relationship is on the right track.
This is a great group of brothers and it felt like old times, said
Terry Hawke, Eastern Michigan 67.
