REVOLUTIONARY WAR HISTORICAL FIGURE PROJECT

4TH GRADE
Due Tuesday, March 1, 2016

Overview
This project will count as a grade in Social Studies, Language Arts, and Math

Essential Question
Explain the role of your historical figure during the revolutionary period.
Identify and explain how the character traits demonstrated by your historical figure helped to
determine his/her actions?
Enduring Understandings
Create a model/doll of an important historical person from the Revolutionary War
period.
o Dress the character in period clothing
o Include appropriate accessories for the historical figure
Design a package for the historical figure.
o Front Panel: Descriptive details about the Revolutionary War period
o Side Panel 1: Character Traits with supporting details
o Side Panel 2: Important Dates and Facts
o Back Panel: Timeline and biographical information
Write an informative article describing the historical figure and explaining how his/her
character traits helped to determine their actions during the Revolutionary War period.
Include important facts and details.
Write and solve a multistep math word problem that uses at least two different math
operations.

Students will use notes (from classroom instruction, research, and other resources) to
complete this project that includes:
An informative article that details the contribution and importance of one historical
person from the revolutionary period as assigned to/chosen by each student.
An art project-- packaged model/doll showing how (s)he dressed during that period.
(A tissue, shoe, or cereal box may be ideal for the packaging.)

A multistep math word problem that shows the unit price


of one model/doll and requires a solution for the total
cost of an order for multiple units of the model.

***Typed projects must be typed by the student in their own words.
*** Copying straight from a website is plagiarism; this is unacceptable.
Projects that indicate non-compliance with either of the above will
have to be resubmitted by the student for grading.

including what happened and why, based on specific information in the text.
ELACC4RI7: Interpret information presented visually, orally, or quantitatively (e.g., in charts, graphs,
diagrams, time lines, animations, or interactive elements on Web pages) and explain how the information
contributes to an understanding of the text in which it appears.
ELACC4W2: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details to support main ideas or themes; speak clearly at an

4.OA Use the four operations with whole numbers to solve problems.
2. Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and
equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguishing multiplicative
comparison from additive comparison.
3. Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four
operations, including problems in which remainders must be interpreted. Represent these problems using
equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental
computation and estimation strategies including rounding.
