Dear Mr. Crews,
I am pleased to invite you to participate in a panel at the International CES (in addition to the
invitation to participate in the Leaders in Technology Program). The Facing the Policy Issues
of Facial Recognition Technology panel will take place on Tuesday, January 8 from to 2:00 to
3:00 pm. The session will be promoted using the following description:
Facing the Policy Issues of Facial Recognition Technology
While discussions over the need for and details of a federal privacy law overhaul
continue, technological development continues apace. One area of particular growth is
facial recognition technology, which is increasingly used online and offline in both
security and commercial contexts. What are the policy implications of widespread
deployment of this technology? Can citizens make a legitimate claim of privacy on our
most public feature?
More than 150,000 individuals from 150 countries -- including 5,000 media, analysts and
bloggers and more than 3,000 exhibitors -- are expected to attend the 2013 International CES.
This session is part of the Innovation Policy Summit programming, which will be open and free
of charge to all CES attendees. Please see the schedule for the most current information on the
show.
Please confirm your interest in this speaking opportunity with Laura Hudson at lhudson@CE.org
or (703) 907-7604. Once you confirm, additional materials will be forthcoming. In the interim,
please feel free to contact her with any questions.
We look forward to your response.
Sincerely,

Gary Shapiro
President and CEO
