What do you think?
This pairwork activity teaches students how to use modal verbs of obligation and prohibition.
It also gives students practice at justifying their opinions.
Before class, make one copy of the worksheet for each student.
Procedure
Divide the class into pairs.
Give each student a copy of the worksheet and tell them to write their partners name at the
top of the second column.
Explain that the students have to give their opinion on ten statements about people and age.
They also have to guess their partners opinion.
Draw the students' attention to the scale at the top of the worksheet.
Students work individually and circle a number in each column. They are not allowed to ask
their partner anything at this stage.
Students then compare their answers in pairs and see how many of their predictions are
correct.
Encourage the students to justify their opinions, particularly when they dont agree with each
other.
When everyone has finished, have the students tell the whole class how many of their
predictions were correct and discuss any differences of opinion.
