Instructions:
This is group assignment. Each group can have maximum of three members.
Answer all questions

Questions:

1. Write the definition of prototype and rapid prototyping by referring to at least two
references.
2. State the advantages and disadvantages of prototyping.
3. Distinguish each types of rapid prototyping classification.
4. Differentiate additive processes based on supply and layer creation techniques.
5. Explain two main applications of rapid prototyping and give some examples for each
application.
6. Identify the type of rapid prototyping machine at Block D Workshop, KKTM Balik Pulau.
Explain briefly the specification, installation requirement and any other information related
to the machine. You also can include the photo, interview or other information to help your
explanations.
7. State few reasons for surface treatment and coating.
8. List common method of mechanical surface treatment and coating.
9. Give the reason for case hardening and hard facing.
10. Describe two major vapor deposition processes.
11. Distinguish between ion implantation process and ion plating.
12. Explain electroplating process. Sketch basic schematic of the electroplating process.
13. Explain sputtering process with aid of diagram.
14. What is electroless plating? How it is done?
15. Identify a part from conventional turning machine that has surface treatment and coating
characteristics. Give the name of the part and provide some description of it. Please explain
the treatment process involved and why the process needed.
