I have had the pleasure of working with Wendy Smith for six
weeks in the capacity of Co-operating teacher. During this time she
demonstrated an in depth understanding and application of all
knowledge, skills, and attributes of an outstanding teacher. She
successfully immersed herself into our school culture and grade team
while bringing her own ideas and teaching style into each lesson and
task.
Our class is a very dynamic group. It ranges from Science Fair
gold medalists to students with significant learning disabilities. Ms.
Smith constantly worked to challenge and engage every student in our
room. Her lesson plans consistently included detailed scaffolding for
the variety of learners she worked with daily. Her awareness of
different learning styles was evident in the ease with which she
instinctively adapted lessons and assignments. Her desire to ensure
each student was included and welcomed was clear throughout her
time at Louis Riel. I believe that this focus on rapport will serve Wendy
well throughout her teaching career.
Ms. Smiths impact at Louis Riel went far beyond the walls of our
own classroom during her short 6-week practicum. She sought out
many opportunities to network and connect with other teachers and
students throughout the building. This included coaching our Senior
Boys Basketball Team, supervising the playground on her lunch breaks,
or co-planning units and lessons with teachers across grade levels and
disciplines. Wendy demonstrated a deep understanding of collegiality,
collaboration, and teamwork.
I am confident that Ms. Smith will be an asset to any school. She
is confident, knowledgeable and has the skills of a seasoned teacher. I
believe she will continue to grow and become even more effective as a
teacher with further opportunities.
