Architecture

General Facts:

Contemporary architecture is the architecture of the present, and uses a wide variety
of influences from many sources.
Contemporary houses can be large or small, going form one story to skyscrapers.
Contemporary buildings are generally made of natural, retainable, and recycled
materials, catering to the environmentally conscious nature of todays society.
Contemporary works bring clean lines, natural light, and tries to be connected to
nature when it can.

Elements and Principals of Design

Contemporary buildings use horizontal and vertical line to invite a feeling of peaceful
strength.
Use mainly geometric forms and shapes, and use space (both interior and exterior) to
create and open and uncluttered feeling.
Usually uses warm colors to contrast with bleak modernism.
Asymmetrical balance is used along with Rhythm to create feeling of unity throughout
the structure.
Contemporary style usually takes the style of the area, creating new and unique forms
of the same look.

Examples of contemporary architecture:

Contemporary architecture was derived from modern, a style that was developed in
the mid 20th century.
Architects felt that modern design was too cold and unfeeling, so they started
designing houses that felt closer to nature and had their own form of whimsy.

Conclusion:
1. The Louvre in Paris is a modern Pyramid that is used as a art installation as well as a
museum. Temples are not built like they were in ancient times, showing a move from
strong religion.
2. The Capital Building in Washington D.C. is a modern Dome structure.
3. Modern roads are used for transportation and payed for by taxes.
4. Architectural style is representative of the culture and lifestyle of those who build it,
and shows their feelings.
5. Really no downside, besides not liking the style. Contemporary design is eco friendly
and stylish.
