    Anofficerissupposedtokeepthecommunityasafeplaceanddealwithincidentsina
    fairwaywithouthavingassumptions,labels,orstereotypingpeople.Imaginegettingbeatenup
    byanofficerandgoingtojail.InAmericatherehasbeencopiousnessofincidentswherecops
    haveusedexcessiveforce,whichcanbeperceivedaspolicebrutality.
    Theissueofexcessiveforceandracismgoallthewaybackto1955,tothetimewhena
    blackfourteenyearoldnamedEmmettTillwasbeatenupandshotintheheadbytwowhite
    men,fourdaysafterhewasreportedtohaveflirtedwithawhitecashieratagrocerystore.The
    menweretriedformurder,butsinceitwasanallwhitemalejury,theyacquittedthetwomen.
    AccordingtoTheDeathofEmmettTill,anarticlewrittenonHistory.com,
    OnSeptember23,
    theallwhitejurydeliberatedforlessthananhourbeforeissuingaverdictofnotguilty,
    explainingthattheybelievedthestatehadfailedtoprovetheidentityofthebody.Manypeople
    aroundthecountrywereoutragedbythedecision.Thisshowshowthejurydidnotwanttobe
    botheredwithayoungblackboyscase.
    Thatsjustoneexampleofthebunchofotherpolice
    brutalityexamples.
    InTolmanHighschool(aschoolinPawtucket,RI)anincidentoccurredwhenacopused
    excessiveforce.Accordingtoschoolofficials,anofficerheardastudentyellingobscenitiesin
    thehallwayanddetainedhimafterwords.Asthestudentrefusedtocooperatewiththeofficer,
    thestudent'sseventeenyearoldbrothercameandtheybothrefusedtocooperatewiththeofficer.

    Thecopendedupslammingthefourteenyearold,whilemanystudentscameinthehallwayand
    startedyellingatthecop.Thefourteenyearoldandseventeenyearoldendedupgetting
    arrested.ThestudentsatTolmanweresoupsetandstartedaprotestthenextday.Ibelievethat
    theofficerlabeledthestudentthatwasyellingbecauseofhispastproblemswitheitherthe
    schoolortheofficerhimself.Thereforedecidedtouseexcessiveforce.Thestudentyellingthe
    obsencientiesdidOverall,thepolicediduseexcessiveforceonthefourteenyearoldeven
    thoughthestudentwasnotcooperating.

    Someincidentsarenotsodramatic,butstillare

    consideredaspolicebrutality.Forexample,theSandraBlandcase.SandraBlandwasawoman
    whowasfoundhangedinherjailcellonJuly13,2015.AccordingtotheTexasPolice
    Department,B
    landhadbeenpulledoverforaminortrafficviolationonJuly10bystatetrooper
    BrianEncinia.Hearrestedherfollowinganescalatingconflict,duringwhichheallegedthatshe
    hadassaultedhimandwhichwasrecordedbyhis
    dashcam
    andbyabystander'scellphone.

    Threedayslater,Sandrawasfounddeadinherjailcell.BrianEnciniashouldhaveneverarrested
    SandraBland.IbelievethattheofficerassumedthatSandrawasuptonogood,especially
    becauseofherskincolor.
    Inconclusion,duringtheTolmanHighschoolincident,thepolicediduseunnecessary
    excessiveforcetowardthestudents.Therewasnoneedtoslamthestudentsdownnorpepper
    spraythestudentsthatprotestedoutsidethenextday.Theseincidentsthroughoutthepaper
    impactsourworldinabigwaybecauseweareabouttoenter2016andthisstillhasnotstop!
    Beingablackfemaleintoday'ssocietyscaresmebecauseIconstantlyhavethatquestionwho's
    nextinthebackofmyhead.Policedepartmentsshouldcometogetherasoneandtalkabout
    howthisisaffectingeveryoneincludingofficers.
