Thislabreportwillincludeactionpotentialsalsoknownasimpulses,toxinseffectson
actionpotentials,andcranialnerveandreflexactionpotential.Actionpotentialsinamultipolar
neuron,wherethefirstpartoftheaxonistriggeredbyastimulusandrespondsintransmitting
millivoltsandthecellmembrane,riseandfallataconstantpace(allornothing).Depolarization
isthereductionofamembranesrestingpotentialsothatthemembranebecomesless
negative.Repolarizationisthestateintheactionpotentialprocessthatreturnsmembrane
potentialbacktoitsnegativevoltageafterthedepolarizationprocesshasoccurredby
selectivelyopeningandclosingofthepotassiumchannelsonthecellmembrane.Theperiod
whenaxonscantbestimulatedtogenerateanewactionpotentialiscalledtherefractoryperiod
whichlimitsimpulsestoanaverageof100persecond.Thefollowingfigureswilladdress
