Washington State Legislature - Know Your Government

Go to Washington State Legislature Home at leg.wa.gov . Once there, select the Find Your
District button. Enter your address in the space provided and press Find My District. Your
district number will be at the top of a pop-up box that contains three names. The first is your
state senator, followed by your two representatives. Be sure to identify their political party.

Legislation in Washington
Each of the senators and representatives has their own website that you may access through
the district finder page. For EACH senator and representative, identify two pieces of legislation
that they are either sponsoring or co-sponsoring. Identify the legislation by number and title (ie,
HB2936 Providing Early Morning Childcare for Working Mothers

At the Home Page, scroll down to the FIND BILLS button and select it. Then go to BILLS BY
TOPIC. Once there, choose ALL down by the alphabet search bar. Then browse the topics
that come up. Find one bill that you think that you would support and one that you would
oppose.

Of those two, choose one that you feel the most strongly about. That is the one that you are
going to write about to your senator or representative asking them to support or reject.
