REACTION PAPER
True Love Waits
The seminar we attended last Thursday, February 11, 2016 with the theme, "True Love
Waits", was very enlightening. It reminded us the meaning and essence of love. It was headed
and organized by our NSTP Professors, namely Jun Matundan, Jonathan Galicto and Maylanie
Galut; and the Campus Organizations such as Young Flames for Jesus led by Ate Robilyn, so
having known them already it felt like a form of open conversation with acquiantances.
As a commencement act, the Campus Organization catered games for us the students. It
was a good start that really killed the hesitant and restless mood in us.
Then, the Young Flames for Jesus Campus Organization entered and sang a song of praise
in a form of intermission number of worship, intimacy and healing. Next, some of their members
shared their stories of hardships before acknowledging God in their lives. I could somehow
relate to their stories of being lost and being hopeless but in the end of they showed how they
was able to overcome defeat by welcoming God and loving Him as he loves them. However, Ate
Robilyn's story was for me the most heartfelt. She said, before, she thought she had already
everything after graduating, passing the Licensure Board Exam and having her dream job of
being a nurse but it was all shattered when she was diagnosed with cancer. I was surprised to
discover that she had cancer because she doesn't show any signs of it at all. She shared that at
that point she was lost, and asked God why He gave her such the disease disregarding her
ability of serving people in the hospital. She went through painful therapies and cried she
couldn't continue anymore. It was very inspiring when she told us that the reason why she is still
alive is God. She surrendered everything to Him, she joined YFJ and served Him that
strengthened her faith as it strengthened her soul. From the YFJ, I learned that God is love. You
can find true love with God, a love that will keep you going and live the life He gave. After that,
the closing prayer concluded to surrender everything to God and let Him be the author of your
true love.
Followed by a speech from our NSTP Professor Maylanie Galut, she gave five key points
in the theme True Love Waits such as "know your priority" that is to focus on studies; "love your
parents"; and "love God". She was telling us that college is not the right time to have a lovelife,
which I agree upon.
Then, the open forum began with three panelists. I couldn't relate to the topic but I did
understand what they're trying to say, that to love, you must first love God and know your
priority. At our current age, it is not advisable to have girlfriends nor boyfriends.
To close the forum, each panelists gave their final words. Pastor Jun also left us a reminder
to let God be the author of our love life. He said to not search for the "right" guy/ girl but instead
be the "right" one for someone. Become successful and get them to search for you. I love that
thinking and that would be my new motto, "to be the RIGHT someone foe somebody" someday
at the right time.
