Classroom Syllabus

Course: Ind 2nd Grade 3rd Grade

Course Description:
The following courses will be taught and presented at the appropriate level of each student as they
correlate to their Individual Education Plan (IEP). Throughout the year the students will be working to
increase academic progress and independent functioning through the Sunshine State Standards using a
modified curriculum through Access Points. This curriculum has an array of components. The students
will have five subject areas. The first is Math where they will learn basic numeral operations, time
management, money and measurement. The second class is Language Arts where the students will work
on expressive and receptive language skills, and handwriting skills. The third class is Reading where the
students will engage in a literacy program that promotes phonics, word building, and sight word reading.
The remaining components are Science and Social Studies which involve social skills, daily living skills
and vocational skills. Instruction will include large and small group instruction, skill building centers,
and hands on learning. This curriculum was designed to prepare our students to become responsible and
independent citizens. The individual needs of each student will be monitored and met in the following
areas:
Access Math
Access Reading
Access Language Arts
Social Studies
Access Science
Materials:

index cards
2 composition books
scissors, pencils & eraser
markers, crayons & colored pencils
small supply box or bag
1 bottle of instant hand sanitizer

Class Rules:
1. Show responsibility for my classroom, school & materials.
2. Listen to teacher lessons and other adults.
3. Follow directions.
4. Respect teachers and peers, and take care of others.

5. Walk in a quiet and orderly line.


6. Use an appropriate voice, stay on task and allow others to stay on task.
Conduct Policy:
Behavior modification strategies will be used in the classroom. Positive behavior demonstrated by the
students will be rewarded. Personal responsibility and independence are encouraged, and a daily report
will be sent home that will keep you informed of your childs progress. Students will be reminded of the
consequences due to demonstration of inappropriate behaviors.
Attendance / Tardies:
Each student is expected to be in school every day and arrive on time. Homeroom classes begin
promptly at 8:20 a.m. and end at 1:50 p.m. If your child is absent from school, a written note must be
provided on the day he or she returns.
Grading Criteria:
The student will be assessed at his/her academic level in order to receive the appropriate grade in each
subject area.
Grade Scale:
2nd 3rd grade
A = 90 - 100 Independent work
B = 80 - 89
Independent &/or Minimum assistance
C = 70 - 79
Moderate assistance
D = 60 - 69
Maximum assistance
F = 0 - 59
No work / No attempt
Parent Conferences:

a note with your child requesting a conference and we can set up a day and time that are convenient. You
