Expectations:
Athletes will dedicate themselves to the Track and Field team as their primary extracurricular focus during the season (March 21
through May 18). While you may have other extracurricular commitments, they should not interfere with your commitment to this
team. MIAA rules prohibit an athlete on a team missing a practice or meet due to another sporting competition (bona fide athlete rule).
An athlete violating this rule may incur punishment on the entire team. Register online through FAMILYID.
Every athlete should be willing to try different events and should plan on competing in at least one running and one field event at each
meet. If you want to try something out, just ask a coach.
Leaving early from an away meet requires a signed transportation waiver form. Athletes may NOT drive themselves to a meet but
may be picked up with a signed waiver.
Athletes are expected to come into the season prepared to begin training on day 1. There will be pre-season workouts posted that you
should refer to as you prepare. Captains will be organizing runs / hikes / weight room time. Take time to at the very least develop your
core and legs (squats and wall sits are easy enough to do at home while watching TV or as a study break). Everyone should be able to
go at least 2 miles on the road. Our most difficult meets are the four at the beginning, so the more prepared we are, the better well do.
The weekend meets are considered optional meets but these represent an opportunity to compete against others in the division and
are generally lots of fun. At this time, athletes are expected to arrange their own transportation to and from the meets. This is subject to
change. These meets do not factor into the bona fide athlete rule as they are optional.
Leaving early from a home meet requires approval from a coach BEFORE the meet. I understand that the meets are a long
commitment, but it is a commitment you are choosing to make. We should be present as a TEAM to cheer our 2 milers, triple jumpers,
discus throwers and 4x400 relay teams.
Unexcused absences from practices or early departures from home meets or unexcused absences from dual meets may negatively
affect your opportunity to letter or become a captain. We are very flexible and understand that you have many commitments, just
speak with one of us if something comes up. Five of us are in the building, so it is not hard to find us. We are all teachers and appreciate
the need to balance academics with athletics, BUT remember that you are making a commitment to this team.
Varsity awards (letters) are awarded to athletes who have earned them by accumulating 10 points in the dual meets throughout the
season, competing in the TVL League meet, or competing in the DIII Championship meet. Remember that unexcused absences or
excessive tardies may affect the earning of a letter by an athlete.
Captains for the following year are picked at the end of the season through a team vote. All junior athletes are eligible unless affected
by unexcused absences which reflects a lack of commitment.
Team gear (swag) will be coordinated through the captains. After the initial pre-season meeting, they will work to design gear that
the team is interested in obtaining. Our goal is to place the order BEFORE the season begins so we can have the gear before our first
meet. Additional gear may be ordered by different event groups (hurdlers, distance, throwers, etc.) if they so desire, BUT they must
inform a coach, who may help (though it is the athletes responsibility to design/collect $/order/distribute the gear).
