Define My Preferences

Step 1: Gather Information

1. What is your RIASEC code? List your self-assessed type or the results
of an assessment, such as the Strong Interest Inventory tool or the SelfDirected Search (SDS)
Three Letter Code: S- Social R- Realistic A- Artistic

2. What are your preferences according to the dichotomies assessed in the

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator?
Four Letter Type: ESFJ- The Provider: Sensitive to the needs of others and energetically
dedicated to my responsibilities.

3. List the careers you wish to explore that are consistent with the types in
RIASEC code, your MBTI code, or both.
According the RIASEC assessment I feel a psychiatric aid is along the lines of a career I
would enjoy. Not so much with those so have mental illnesses or restraining violent patients,
but helping those who need help with daily living activities and even just companionship for
those who may need it. I enjoy interacting with others and am eager to please and provide.

Step 2: Evaluate the Information

4. What did your RIASEC code tell you about your preferences?
After the taking the assessment my RIASEC code pointed me in the direction of being social
which involves supporting and cooperating with others, helping, healing and nurturing which
I found to be spot on. It also included realistic and artistic which are also both a good fit. I am
definitely hands on and practical.

5. What did your MBTI type tell you about your preferences?
The results from the MBTI assessment said I am a sensor, meaning I process information in a
concrete realistic way such as noticing details, observing, and use provable facts. I am also a
feeler and a judger; meaning I am compassionate and like serving others, structure and
schedule is a must, as well as following through.

6. What further information would be helpful to learn about the careers

that reflect your patterns of interests and personality characteristics?
Some further information that would be good for me to know is who and what type of people
I work well with? Such as co-workers. Is there a specific age group or generation I do better
with? And what are things I can do to overcome obstacles that may interfere with my career
or clash with my personality?

Step 3: Make Conclusions

Following your analysis, create a list of your top five preferences that
you want to focus on using in your career and top five areas that you
want to further explore.
