STUDENT PERFORMANCE CATEGORY

Student Performance Category


(required)
State provided growth score for ELA/math teachers
in grades 4-8
Teachers in these grade levels must also have a
backup SLO (could be group or school-wide and
is set by the supt. or his/her designee).
SLOs for ALL teachers with Regents Exams.
SLOs for ALL teachers without State assessments
could be linked, group/team, or school-wide. (must
use NYS assessments/Regents)
Existing 3rd party vendor assessments must be
resubmitted for approval. Must be done by vendor.
District, BOCES, or regional assessments must be
submitted for approval. Currently there is no
process.

STUDENT PERFORMANCE CATEGORY

Important Definitions

Linked = Teachers use the same State assessments


(specified in the SLO), but they are only evaluated on
student performance for those students on their
roster.
Group/Team = A specific group of teachers
(department, grade level, etc.) use the same State
assessments (specified in the SLO), and they all
receive the same score. (They are evaluated on ALL
students that took that assessment, not just the
students on their roster.)
School-wide = ALL teachers in a school building will
receive the same score, and it could be based on the
results of all State assessments in the building.
(could be same as principal score)

(optional)
State provided growth score for ELA/math teachers
in grades 4-8 provided that this is different than the
measure used for the required component.
Growth score from a state-designed supplemental
assessment calculated using an approved growth
model.
Currently, there is no list of approved
assessments.
WARNING:
If this option is selected, it cannot count for more
than 50% of the student performance component.
If this option is selected and a teacher is rated
ineffective in this category, they cannot get higher
than ineffective overall.

Two required observations
1 by building principal (min. 80%)
1 by independent evaluator (min. 10%)

One observation must be unannounced


No artifacts (unless observed as part of the lesson
observation)
Locally determined:
Percentages for each observation
Frequency and duration
Live or recorded
More than 2 observations
Number of rubric components to evaluate in an
observation (must evaluate all observable components
domains 2 and 3 as referenced by the State.)

What percentage should the principal observation be? (min 80%)
What percentage should the independent evaluator be? (min 10%)
Should the optional trained peer observation be used? If so, how much
will it count for? (max 10%)
What should the actual cut scores be for the observation HEDI scale?
How many observations should be done total? (2 required principal
and independent evaluator)
How many announced and unannounced observations? (1
unannounced required)
How long should observations be?
Which observable rubric subcomponents will be addressed in each
observation? (NYS references domains 2 and 3)
Do observations have to be live or can they be recorded?

Hardship Waiver
HARDSHIP WAIVER

If you are unable to negotiate your APPR plan by the

November
15th deadline, you may apply for a hardship waiver. (Keep
ALL
documentation of good faith efforts to negotiate.)
