Holiday events bring Christmas spirit to Miami

Winter break is just around the corner and most of us are probably hustling between
exams, essays, work and events. However, theres always time for some Christmas spirit.
Miami is known for lacking the holiday cheer overall: no snow, no fireplaces, no ugly
sweaters and definitely no hot chocolate by the fire. However, this year there are plenty of
things to do in order to set up the mood for whats to come, either if youre going home to
chilly temperatures, or staying here pretending that a low of 75F is a big deal. Give yourself
a break from exams and check out these events to celebrate the end of the year with some
friends before everyone heads home.
Santas Enchanted Forest
Youre never too old for a fun evening at the fair, especially when its Christmas themed!
Considering that the park displays a beautiful show of millions of dazzling Christmas
lights, festive Christmas music, rides and delicious foods from around the world including
hot chocolate and candy canes galore, its a pretty good deal for Miami. Besides, Santas
Enchanted Forest has South Floridas tallest and biggest Christmas tree, something rare in
palmtree land. Open daily from 5 p.m. to midnight, from October 29 to January 3.

Christmas Near The Beach
Theres no other way of celebrating Christmas in Miami rather than next to the ocean. Its
your time to celebrate the holidays Florida style at the Arts Park at Young Circle in
Hollywood. A special showcase of Santas shack by the beach, instead of his typical cabin
in the North Pole, makes for a great photo opportunity and probably a good laugh too.
Ballet, flash mobs, musical productions, vendors and even a classic car show, make
Christmas Near The Beach the perfect occasion to chill with friends while adding a bit of
holiday cheer. The event is free and will take place December 12 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Nutcracker
There are no rides and no hot chocolate in this one, but definitely jolly Christmas tunes and
a holiday classic. The Nutcracker by Miami City Ballet, is the perfect way to relax and set
the mood for the holiday break. Only in Miami for a limited time, the show includes songs

by Tchaikovsky played by a live orchestra, great performances and theres even a rumor it
all ends with a magical snowfall. Who knows? Its Miami, anything can happen.

La Feria del Mercado de San Miguel Holiday Market
Nothing will ever beat that cozy small-town holiday market with real snow and real hot
chocolate to keep yourself warm. However, Miami gets a tiny taste of that classic tradition
with the opening of La Feria del Mercado de San Miguel in Downtown. The market
features pop-up restaurants, booths with an array of Christmassy items like jewelry, art,
artisanal baked goods and even some exclusive holiday shopping. Whats even more merry
than that? The fact that this year Bayfront Park will move its famous Christmas tree to La
Feria.
301 Biscayne Blvd, Downtown Miami.
Open today through January 6, from noon to 9 p.m.
John Waters: a holiday comedy show
If youre done with holiday cheer, or you simply dont celebrate Christmas, just pay a visit
to famous cult filmmaker John Waters and catch a good laugh. His comedy show, A John
Waters Christmas: holier and dirtier, is surely something youve never seen before. His
bizarre sense of humor adds the X in Xmas, while examining holiday rituals, traditions
and his fascination with Santa Claus in a mischievous monologue. Waters will most
probably make you laugh, but be warned, it might get a little wild.
Adrienne Arsht Center
1300 Biscayne Blvd.
305-949-6722
Monday December 14, at 8 p.m., $45$65.
There is nothing more disappointing than Christmas without snow, but take a look at these
events and youll surely increase the holiday spirit in a city that lacks all the holiday jolly.
