LESSON PLAN (2015-2016)

Student Name: Luke
Bowden
ID: G00286640
Subject: Technical Graphics
Pupil Year Group: 2nd Year
Lesson Number: 3
Date: 18-1-2016

Topic(s): Auxiliary Projection

No. of Pupils: 24
Length of lesson: 1 hr. 15 minutes.
Time of Lesson: 10.15-11.30

1. PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

In lesson 2 the majority of students demonstrated their ability to conduct
themselves in the appropriate manner for entering the room and roll call.
Some students required further instruction but this is to be expected
considering lesson two was the first lesson in which they had to execute
this routine. I will observe this routine again and continue to reinforce it if
required (S)(K).
The student who joined late displayed slightly improved ability to use the
equipment following a one to one demonstration in lesson 2. Further
practice will continue to help him develop these skills (S).
The majority of students displayed great aptitude in regards to
comprehending drawing principles following the initial investigation and
demonstration (K). Students had very few difficulties applying what they
had learned regarding auxiliary elevation in the lesson to a series of
problems (S)(K).

Methodology (How?)

RL

Direct Instruction

Recap of the principles of

auxiliary elevations.

RL

Recap questioning supported by

animated PowerPoint

Applying the principles of

RL
auxiliary elevations to an
object- one final projection of
object from UTG on pastel
colored paper annotated with
notes by students for revision in
future.

Facilitate students applying the

principles of auxiliary elevations to one
final problem from the UTG book with
contingent instruction. This drawing
will be completed on pastel paper and
students will annotate it with notes.

Module Title: School Placement 4/TP2

(Pastel paper is used as a

memory aid for written note,
has the potential to standout in
the memory of students for
drawing principles to)

NL/RL
Direct instruction to introduce the task,
handout worksheet.
Facilitate students completing auxiliary
elevation of the LOGO and copying it
to tracing sheet for further work in
later lessons.

Application of auxiliary
elevations to T-shirt logo design
(Real life application to keep
students motivated, to create
competition in the class and to
make the subject matter more
enjoyable).

2.

AIMS

The main aims of this lesson are to:

KEY

1. Recap the principles of auxiliary elevations.

2. Facilitate students applying principles to problem in
understanding technical graphics book
3. Real life application of auxiliary elevation through t-shirt logo
design.
*KEY: C=Cognitive, PM=Psychomotor, A=Affective

3. LEARNING OUTCOMES & CORRESPONDING ASSESSMENTS

Learning Outcomes (LOs)

Assessment of LOs

At the end of this lesson the

students will be enabled to

(Note: each LO has an assessment.

Include a variety of types.)

Aim One LOs

Explain what an
auxiliary elevation is.
Identify the key
principles for auxiliary
elevations.
Demonstrate the
ability to identify the
set up and X1Y1 and
process for projecting

an auxiliary elevation
at the correct angle.
Aim Two LOs
Apply the principles of
auxiliary elevations to
a final problem
Comprehend how the
angle of projection
changes depending
on the question.
Clearly and neatly
annotate each view
and the X1Y1
Visualize hidden
detail of an object
projected as it
appears in an
auxiliary elevation.
Aim Three LOs
Apply the principles
of auxiliary elevations
to a real world
exercise
Design a logo for a tshirt
Display their
individuality and
creativity
Demonstrate
improved motivation
due to the fun
manner in which the
subject matter is
being investigated.

Discussion with students

Direct questioning
Inspection of drawings

Observation of students
projecting an auxiliary
elevation of the logo on
worksheet.
Inspection of completed
drawing
Wall of Logo designs.
Later in the scheme this
exercise will be part of a
final assessment in which
students vote for the best
logo in the class and that
student gets their logo
printed onto a t-shirt.

Roll call.
Recap of principles of
auxiliary elevations
(Questioning supported
by PowerPoint)
Key questions:

- What is an auxiliary
elevation
-What angle do we project
an auxiliary elevation at?
-What is the X1 Y1?
-What angle is the X1 Y1 at
in relation to our lines of
projection?
-How do we identify hidden
detail?
-How do we represent
hidden detail?

Pupils engage with teacher

by introducing themselves
individually.

Students engage with
teacher questioning to
illustrate the knowledge they
have retained from lesson 2
regarding the principles of
auxiliary elevations.

LESSON SEQUENCE (MIDDLE)

15-40

40-65

Facilitate students
projecting one final
object from the UTG
book in an auxiliary
elevation and ensure
that they annotate the
drawing highlighting the
key points.

Students complete a final

problem from UTG projecting
an auxiliary elevation on
pastel paper and annotating
it with key notes for revision
later.

engaging in a real life
application of the
principles of auxiliary
elevations by projecting

project the logo in auxiliary

elevation. This is then copied
using tracing paper and
displayed on the T-shirt
Design wall. This traced logo
will be used multiple times
throughout the scheme as
students apply principles of
auxiliary projection
(Elevations, plans, true
shape, circles) to create a tshirt logo.

6. CRITICAL REFLECTION
Strengths

This lesson was supervised and the strengths were highlighted through
discussion with my supervisor and a report that followed.
General teaching skills were apparently good in his view.
The approach was effective and students achieved the learning targets.

Challenges

The main challenge outline was the differentiation in regards to mixed

ability that exists in the class.
Two or three students are at a level above everyone else in the lesson and
they are being marginally held back by the fact that the rest of the class is
at a lower level.

Suggestions for Improvement

Plan to facilitate the students who are at the top end of the mixed ability
levels. These students have a grasp on the principles and applying them
but their knowledge and comprehension needs to be deepened.
They should be allowed to develop 3D visualization better also.

Module Title: School Placement 4/TP2

My supervisor recommend more innovative and creative approaches

considering how successful this lesson was.
