Applicants Statement:
I enjoy learning; it has always been the case. When I was a child, my friends and I, instead of
playing house, would play school. My love for school blossomed here and never died. My 9th grade English
teacher impacted me because of his passion an excitement for education. He used his talents to help us. He
made up songs for different concepts of grammar, or about books we read to help us remember certain
characters and themes. He made English come alive for me. I decided to follow in his footsteps to become
an educator. Just as he used his skills and passion to help his students, I plan on doing the same. It is my
dream to be an excellent teacher who inspires the best of each student.
In my path to become a teacher I ended up at Southern Utah University (SUU), where I had the
opportunity to develop the skills necessary to be a teacher. I learned to excel with a busy schedule, since I
usually had 18 credit hours, as well as a job. I learned the necessary content and excelled in all of my
classes. I graduated with a 3.9 G.P.A. My love for learning and sharing knowledge steadily increased
through each course I took at SUU.
For my student teaching, I ended up with an excellent opportunity that provided many challenges
and opportunities for growth. Instead of shadowing, and teaching in anothers class room, I was hired as an
intern. As an intern I had my own classroom. I learned many valuable lessons about classroom management,
teaching effectively, and connecting with students as individuals that I wouldnt have learned in someone
elses classroom.
I also had the opportunity to teach in different capacities before this. I volunteered with International
Language Programs (ILP) and went to China as a teacher. I prepared daily lesson plans for teaching
kindergarten-aged children, as well as having weekly lessons with students in all grade levels form K-12.. I
also worked as a writing center tutor, where I provided feedback to allow the students to improve not only
their papers, but also their writing skills. I gained valuable skills of working one on one with students. I
tutored with the 4-H program for a time in a middle school and built personal relationships with the students
while tutoring. Each of these experiences aided me in becoming an effective, passionate teacher.
I have high expectations for myself as well as those around me and can motivate people to improve.
Leadership has become a strong point as I have served in many presidencies of clubs and honor societies,
such as being PR/Historian for the International English Honors Society Sigma Tau Delta, the Social Media
Specialist for Golden Key International Honor Society, and the President of the Intermediate Ballroom
Dance Team. Each of these positions provided me with excellent opportunities to stretch, grow and learn.
When I have I dream, I intend to do everything I can to achieve it. My dream is to become an English
Teacher that inspires her students to love learning. I know that I will be an excellent educator and look
forward to continually learning as I teach.
