KUDOS

Congratulations to the students for their

efforts and enthusiasm during an extremely busy
month. They are excited to perform the musical
theatre song and dance theyve been working on.
Our school Lenten project," Change for
Change Guatemala" is well underway. Students
were very generous with their loose change this
past Friday and game day contributions.
RELIGION
Discussions, songs and Bible stories in the
class will revolve around the Lenten theme and
the preparation for the coming of Easter. We will
also be moving ahead with the Fully
Alive program for both grades and
First Eucharist for the grade two students.
LANGUAGE ARTS
The children will be continually challenged to
read more and write more in our Language Arts
program. At this point they should be at ease with
using word wall words and word lists around the
class. We will be reviewing all our words until the
end of the year. Their writing should be more
comprehensive and sequential. We will continue to
have opportunities to exercise the editing
components of the writing process throughout the
term. We are currently working on our poetry unit
for both grades. The students will continue to
read stories in order to connect to their specific
science units. Examples for the grade two
students are: stories, "Water, Water
Everywhere" which tells of earth's water being
recycled over millions of years and "Washing the
Willow Tree Loon" a story involving the rescue of
animals after an oil spill. The grade three
students are reading about different structures
such as igloos and skyscrapers.

MATHEMATICS
During the month of March,
in Mathematics, both grades will
will be working on probability and numeration.
Grade two students will work on the addition
and subtraction of two digit numbers. The
grade three students will practice addition and
subtraction of three digit numbers. If we have
a chance we will begin to work on multiplication.
SCIENCE
The grade two students will continue
with their unit on Air and Water in the
Environment. The grade three students will
finish their unit on "Structures". Following
these units we will enter into our last science
units for both grades. Both are sure to bring
"new life" into our classroom!
COMMUNICATION
Hopefully we have seen the last of the big
snowfalls and spring will soon be in the air. The
yard proves to be very wet when the melting
begins. Please ensure that your child has extra
socks and mittens in their school bag and/or a
labelled bag of spare clothing that they can
leave on their hook.
March will pass quickly with the break and a
Easter approaching. I hope you can take some
time to enjoy some family activities.
Lastly, we are very grateful for the work
done by our parent and student volunteers.
They are a valuable resource in assisting the
children in the learning process.
Yours in education,
Katherine Shaw
