Terms:
Recycle: The breakdown of waste into new products with the help of mechanical
or physical force
Zero-Waste: Elimination of all materials sent to a landfill
Waste Reduction and Recycling (WRR): Program which a program which is
responsible for the maintenance of reusable, recyclable, and compostable
materials.
Terms:
Material Recovery Facility (MRF): Where recycled materials are taken to be
sorted and recycled. Clean and Dirty MRF
Commingled/ SIngle Streamed: Mixed recycling; put different recycling materials
into recycling bin and the recycler sorts the items. Clean MRF
Pre-sorted: Single materials; the materials will be sorted at the food service site,
commonly done with cardboard. Clean MRF
Dirty MRF: All waste; mix of recyclables and trash in one bin, not separated on
location.

UC System Policy
UC Davis offers a Meals-To-Go program where students purchase a reusable box with one meal
swipe and returns the used box to receive another one
Each year, UC Davis holds two competitions- Game Day Challenge and RecycleMania
RecycleMania promotes recycling and educates students on how and where to throw away
their waste on campus
Game Day Challenge is a competition for colleges to promote waste reduction at University
football games
all concessions served use recycling and compostable packaging
Aggieware Program
The use of professionally washed reusable plates, cups, bowls, and utensils in resident hall
supplied by Student Housing
