Classroom Management Plan
Philosophical Statement:
Learning is a life long process that takes place in and out of the classroom.
Teachers should not only focus on the homework and grades but also the students life
skills. As teachers we should help the students grow academically, mentally, and
emotionally. What we as teachers provide for our students now should help them grow
for the future. My teaching philosophy is perennialism because in my classroom I want to
focus on preparing kids for their future. My goal for my future classroom is to motivate
and inspire the students while providing a safe and fun environment that is based on the
foundations of trust, honesty, communication, and respect. The growth of the student is
just as important as the child receiving an A in the class. As a teacher I also want to
inspire and motivate my students to perform to the best of their abilities in all that they
do.
Classroom Procedures:
The classroom procedures are very important and to make sure they are followed
they will be posted in the front of the classroom so that everyone can see. To begin the
day I will greet the students from the door or my desk. After entering the room they will
put their coats and backpacks in the closet and set their lunch boxes on the counter. Then
they will walk over to the back table and pick up a morning work worksheet. When
walking through the hallways or transitioning from classroom to specials or lunch they

will be expected to be in a straight line and walking quietly. They are to remain quiet the
entire time until we reach our destination, then they may begin talking again. Throughout
the rest of the day while I am teaching lessons the students are expected to remain quiet
and be respectful of the teacher and those around them. They are to raise their hand when
they have a question or would like to answer a question and I will call on them.
At the end of the day the students are to clean up the area around the desk and
make sure that everything is off of the floor and their desk. They will then be dismissed
to get their backpacks and go to their mailbox one pod at a time. When they have finished
that they will place all of their paper into their take home folder and put the folder into
their backpack. When they are all packed up they are to sit quietly at their desk until I
dismiss them or the school bell rings. I will have the children line up in the order of the
bus number that they ride so that I can make sure they get on the right bus and so that I
can account for each student.
Late work will be accepted as long as the student has a valid excuse as to why
they did not turn it in. If it becomes a reoccurring problem I will sit down with the child
and then the next step will be to contact his or her guardian. Next to my desk will be a
folder that has Late Work written on the front of it. If a student has late work to turn in
they are to place it in the folder and let me know they have turned it in. At the end of each
day I will check the folder to see if anyone has turned in late assignments.
In the case of student absences, I will be very willing to help that student so that
they are able to catch up. At the back of the classroom next to my desk will be an
organizer that has five different colored folders in it each labeled with a day of the week.
I will place the homework or any worksheets that the student should have into those

folders. When the student comes back from missing school they should immediately
check the folders and take home the work that they missed. Their work should be turned
in to me within the next two days unless there is a different circumstance. If the student
needs help I will offer to help them and teach them how to accomplish the activity.
My mantra will be The best way to predict your future is to create it. This is
what I will live by when I am teaching. When I see this quote it reminds me that I am
helping to create a future for the children I am teaching. If I do not give my best everyday
to help my students learn then I am doing them a disservice.
Classroom Rules:
1. Treat everyone with respect. If the students dont treat each other with respect
there will always be tension and arguments.
2. You must ask permission to leave the classroom. I need to know where my
students are at, at all times. If someone needs to leave the room they must ask
me.
3. Listen and follow instructions when given.
4. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
When creating rules I will inform the principal and staff throughout the building
what my rules and expectations are of my class. I will ask the principal if there is
any school rules that he would like me to add. On the first day of school I will sit
down with the class and explain to them that I have four rules and tell them what
they are. I will then ask if anyone else wants to add any rules to the list. If
someone wants to add rules then we will discuss them as a class and take a vote.
If the class approves of the rule it will be added to list. When involving students
in the creation of the classroom it gives them a since of belonging and power
(Why Didnt I Learn This In College pg 29). On the second day of school I will

send home a letter to the parents explaining to them what my rules are and that I
have talked with their children and they have helped me create the list of rules
they are to follow.
Discipline Plan:
When dealing with discipline I plan to try and take care of it by myself as much as
possible unless, it becomes so severe that I need to involve the principal. I want to cut the
misbehavior from the beginning so if someone is behaving I am going to take care of it
the first time I see it happen. If there are little arguments between students that can be
solved without the teacher getting involved I will ask the students to use I Messages to
fix the problem. An I Message is when the student names the behavior that is bothering
them, describe the impact it has on them, and then explain how it makes them feel. Using
this should put a stop to most of the arguments that arise between students. If the
discipline is more severe I will use the SODA Method that is discussed in the book
The Well Managed Classroom, 2nd Edition. This method has five steps to it: define the
solution, examine the options, determine the disadvantages, determine the advantages,
and decide on a solution. I agree with this method because it allows for the extra detail
and helps students understand all of their options when they misbehave. They are able to
come up with what they believe to be the right answer and that allows them to see what
the right and wrong decision is.
When students are doing an outstanding job I will use positive reinforcement to
show them that I am proud of them and that I like what they are doing. Positive
reinforcement is using consequences immediately after a behavior to increase the
likelihood that the behavior will occur again in the future(Well Managed Classroom pg

46). I believe that encouraging a child and giving them a reward for their behavior is an
excellent way to get students to do what you want them to do and to enjoy doing it. I will
have a system and I will pass out golden tickets when a student is doing something well
or if they are listening and behaving all day. When a student gets so many golden tickets
they will get to choose a prize.
