Air pollution in Yau Ma Tei

In recent years, the air pollution in Yau Ma Tei has been more serious than the

past. Do you know why?

The main reason is people produce many pollutants. They are Sulphur dioxide,

Nitrogen oxides, Carbon monoxide, Lead and other small solid particles. The sources

of the pollutants are power station, vehicles and factories. The pollution is serious in

Yau Ma Tei, but why not in Yueng Long? Yau Ma Tei has a lot of factories and

vehicles, so the pollution is serious there.

The effects of air pollution are very dangerous. When people who live in Yau Ma

Tei breath in the dirty air, the people easily to get diseases for their breath system. The

diseases are Bronchitis and Asthma. Those diseases are harmful to people.

Do we have some improvements? The government builds MTR stations to

decrease the number of cars that people drive on the road and advice people to travel

by the public transport more. Yau Ma Tei has few of trees. We can plant more flowers

or plants in Yau Ma Tei and protect the plants in Yau Ma Tei.

Hong Kong has a department which is giving forecast of the Air Pollution Index

for different areas. It called the Environmental Protection Department. It set up many

air quality monitoring stations, some on roof tops, some on the roadside. The Air

Pollution Level of Hong Kong is always between very hing and severe. Everyone

hope it will decrease to medium and high.
