LESSON PLAN

MADELINE HUNTER-STYLE BY KATLYN HENRY

Objective- Observe and identify examples of slow changes in the Earths surface
and surface materials (e.g., rock, soil layers) due to processes such as decay
(rotting), freezing, thawing, breaking, or wearing away by running water or wind
(dese, 2008)
Anticipatory Set- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUBNha4bgT8
This video shows aerial views of how different places have changed from
1985-2012. I will be walking around the classroom making sure students are
being attentive and quiet. I will stop the video at different times to explain
where or what it shows. (YouTube, 2016)
Modeled Practice- https://prezi.com/_p_unu6miey0/edit/#237_13415665
I plan on presenting a Prezi about ways the earths surface slowly changes
like water, wind, and plants. Students will be following along. (Prezi, 2016)
Guided Practice- http://flipquiz.me/review/71110
I chose to create a jeopardy-style game to play on the smart board. This will
allow me to cover the information again and also ask for the students
response. I will ask each question and students will be raising hands to
answer. (FlipQuiz, 2016)
Independent Practicehttps://jr.brainpop.com/science/land/slowlandchanges/activity/
This activity will be completed in pairs. Each pair will take turns coming to me
by the sink. I will have a sponge over the drain and bar of soap on the
sponge. As the water runs over the bar of soap, students will observe and
answer the questions on the worksheet. This worksheet is online with a
printable version so students can access this on tablets and submit answers.
(Jr.Brainpop, 2016)
Closure- No link
I hope to be using an electronic gradebook (similar to blackboard) in addition
to the hard copy gradebook. After students complete the independent
practice activity, I will post grades and areas of improvement. I will then have
students log on using a computer tablet to review and reflect before
dismissing class.
Assessment- https://quizlet.com/122013307/slow-earth-changes-flash-cards/

I will use the independent practice activity to assess student understanding

informally. I will create flashcards on Quizlet about the different ways the
earths surface changes slowly and send them home with directions for
parents to access and study the flashcards. If students do not have access to
internet, I will have printed flashcards for students. I plan on giving a test
over the information at a later date and using that to assess students
formally. (Quizlet, 2016)
