Checklist/Agenda for New Site Teams


What to DO before coming to Summer Institute
Plan to meet as a Site Team (principal, site coordinator, AVID elective teacher, counselor, content
teachers) before the end of the school year.
Welcome members of the site team, (introduce yourselves, discuss 3 things the team should know about
you).
Meet your District Director and invite him/her to your planning meeting for AVID Summer Institute.
Review AVIDs Mission statement and discuss how it might align with your schools Mission.
Examine the AVID 11 Essentials. Review the Essentials and Indicators of the Certification Self Study (CSS).

Strand-specific Launches

Check your registration to confirm you are in the correct strand for your role at the school (AVID Elective
Teacher=Implementation, Administrator=Leadership for Implementation).
Exchange cell phone numbers with other Site Team members who will be attending SI.
Coordinate travel plans (transportation from airport to hotel).

What to DISCUSS before Summer Institute


What are the expectations for you by attending the AVID Summer Institute? What should you be
prepared to share or do when you return to your school?
What will be your role and responsibility as a member of the AVID Site Team? Review the list of AVID Site
Team roles and responsibilities in the Summer Institute Participant Handbook.
When will the Site Team plan to meet after the Summer Institute (next meeting in the fall)?

What to BRING to the Summer Institute


The School Improvement Plan (SIP) to begin alignment with the AVID Site Team Plan.

Personal calendar/agenda to calendar Site Team meetings (at least the first one in the fall)
Sign in sheet for Site Team time (for portfolio evidence)
AVID confirmation letter with information about the SI
Cell phone numbers of other Site Team members attending SI
A laptop computer (at least one per team) to record your Site Team Plan
